SO we all want more bosses and the current thinking is there should be 1 boss for each monster family and 2 bosses per tier.
herein follows a rough description of a gremlin boss that i thought of while out walking, unfortunately im lazy and so havent gotten around to modeling this in blender or doing any more than very rough sketches. i know that gremlin bosses have been suggested before but this is my version
I dont think that this boss would prove to be T3 difficulty so its much more of a T1 gremlin boss idea
basically after the levels leading up to the boss, after the usual healing station, the knights enter a large arena, i mean large, like bigger than vanadukes arena. there are three rows of three very thick, slightly damaged circular bollards.
there is a machine standing idle ahead of the party button, at the edge of the arena blocking the exit, a short wide corridor leading to a monster gate(just to be sure).
when all knights are standing on the party button a gremlin runs from off screen(top, from the exit) runs past the machine, spots the knights (who are all restricted to the party button for this bit) does the quickstep/dodge animation without moving (looks like he got quite a surprise - there werent supposed to be any knights down here!) turns and runs back to the machine, when alongside the screen flashes white (like the twins), the gremlin has started the machine up and is now sitting in the drivers seat
Now a description of the machine itself would probably be useful. imagine an open cabin bulldozer, the gremlin sitting in the cabin, right at the very back. a large armored engine, with the gremlin logo on the top and twin exhaust pipes/smokestacks poking up out of the casing on either side releasing a constant sputtering of smoke. At the very front in place of a dozer blade the gremlins have fitted a large spinning spiked crusher, like a steam rollers, well, roller but spikey and considerably more dangerous looking.
the machine is completely invulnerable to all attacks, at least initially. now comes the game mechanic. the boss moves around chasing the knights who must, understandably run away, it moves at the same speed as the knights, or possibly slightly faster, in a straight line, but must slow down somewhat to turn.
the bollards also are now active, all drop down, recessed into the ground, every 20/30 seconds a random 4 are raised, the previous 4 dropping back down below surface as this happens.the bollards down can be run over, by both the boss and knights.
the bollards up act as any other impassable block, except to the boss when charging.
in order to damage the boss the knights must get him to ram a bollard(thats currently up obviously).
every so often the gremlin attacks, the dozer slows, he raises an arm in a fist pump, telegraphs an attack is coming and charges forwards, exactly as a trojan does (once the attack is telegraphed he stops targeting) slightly further though
if he hits a knight the knight takes alot of damage ann is pushed sideways, so they dont get hit multiple times - not sure if the charge should be blockable or not
if he rams into a bollard he stops dead, the gremlin is dazed for a couple of seconds. knights can then attack him - note him not the machine, they must attack the rear cabin section (being a gremlin darkness deals bonus damage), when he takes enough damage or after the stun time is up the knights are knocked back, away from the machine, it reverses and gets back to trying to crush the knights
the gremlin/crusher machine has a three part life span, you must get him to crash at least 3 times.
after the first section i think two spawners, sitting inactive up till now at the far left and right of the arena start to spawn gremlins, just thwackers(the ones with hammers) initially, once one is killed it respawns after 5(?) seconds - the boss can kill the gremlin minions just like the cart wheels can kill monsters in firestorm citadel.
after the boss is knocked out for the second time (and players deal enough damage) all kinds of gremlins can be spawned, 4 at a time (limited to 2 menders though - if 4 popped out it would be way to easy) i was thinking just randomize it but perhaps 1 of each type?
im thinking that there needs to be another danger, either floor traps or the gremlin/crusher boss needs a ranged attack
after the third crash the boss is defeated, the crusher/dozer blows up and any gremlins left are wiped out. the knights collect their reward and hop on the elevator down to moorcroft
I can think of an appropriate name for this boss - a machine designed to demolish and destroy (debris and dysfunctional contraptions initially)
thats it for my idea, of course there would have to be levels before hand, and then theres the matter of boss tokens and reward items (new armour?)
but what do people think - too easy(remember though that its a tier 1 boss)? bit weird? alright?
