Hi there,

Sorry if these are really silly questions that have been answered elsewhere, I only started playing a few days ago.

I've managed to grasp the idea of changing the types of levels through the depositing crystal system, and am aware that they affect differet stratums and tiers etc. However, my main query is how to prepare for doing a run in the gate that you have changed (or havnt changed).

On the Silver Knight gate which opened earlier today, I noticed that the pillar showing the types within the gate were Slime - Beast - Poison - Undead...or something along those lines. I understand that to fight against beasts and slimes in tier 2 and 3 you ideally want defence against piercing, however, how are you supposed to predict the main damage type in the poison section? Seeing as poison is a status ailment, rather than a damage type. In this area, will it just be various types of damage, but all dealing poison status effects? Or does poison status only attribute with shadow damage for example? This got me very confused.

Also, Once entering the gate, and reaching a mid point (where basil is) or town (moorcroft manor for e.g.) is there a way to see what type the next stratum will hold? Or do you simply have to remember the order from looking at the pillar before entering.

Again, sorry if these are silly questions, but hopefully you can help me out!

Thanks.

Ahh this has helped a lot, thanks very much. However I have noticed that some of the colours are some what undeterminable? For example there seems to be several different types of greens?

On a tier two level, under Moorcroft Manor, I'm seeing a green background, with a buildings icon. So i'm guessing there will be poison there, in either the concrete jungle or Dark city setting. However, the colour of the icon is a greeny/browny/greyish colour, a colour that does not obviously respond to any enemy type.
Additionally, I'm seeing lots of variants of each colour - various greens, blues, reds, oranges etc.

Again, apologies if these questions seem stupid, I just can't work it out.

I have two answers to two of your questions

The question about the Poison stratum: Generally, there won't be a specific species of monsters (such as Lumbers, Lichens, Greavers, Zombies, etc.), but you will encounter a lot of enemies that deal Poison damage. Your best bet would be to look at the Gate Map beforehand and try to predict which depth you'll go in. Also, unless it's randomly chosen, you'll be able to see which map you'll go to on the elevator before you advance to the next depth. The maps will constantly change (unless it's one-of-a-kind), so you can wait for a bit before advancing to be able to choose which level you want to go to. So when you see a status ailment stratum (which cannot be Stun, Sleep, or Curse, as Stun is rather common, and Sleep and Curse are only caused by two or three monsters), just build up a defense resistance against them and equip Normal-damage gear, or something of your preference.

As for the second question (the one about seeing depths beforehand): Usually, a picture will depict which map you will be going to beforehand (except for randomly determined ones, in which case you will see a question mark), but if not, you could always just go to the tab at the top left and click "Gate Map" to see what awaits you in Clockworks.

You cannot really choose a

You cannot really choose a defense type in a status effect strata, but you can defend against this particular status effect. In your case, bring some poison defense (or not, it's not that useful). Indeed, a monster-themed strata is easier to predict than a status-themed strata (save FSC).

Some levels are specific, and will always be exactly the same, this includes :
- Concrete jungle, containing poison zombies, some normal slimes (very few), poison slimes and revive totems
- Dark city, containing mainly devilites and some kats (and sometime one Trojan)
- Scarlet Fortress, containing mainly kats and some slimes

To know what to expect, use the Gate Map in the options. It'll help you choose the next level (you can wait for level to rotate instead of entering directly the next level, often people prefer arena when available because it has more crowns).
