Gate List Page?

Since I'm reasonably certain that the time to wait for a level change is constant for a given gate at a given depth, I was wondering if it would be helpful to establish a wiki page where people can list any change times they've observed for the current gates. Other players could then use the page to estimate how long they'll have to wait for a given change and make more informed decisions about which gates to play and whether to wait.

As a nifty side effect, we might be able to data mine the results to learn more about the level rotation mechanics.

If anyone feels like it, this page could also list the available levels at each depth on the current gates.

Does this seem like a good idea?

I don't think this is such a good idea for the wiki, since the lifetime of a gate is only about a week. I don't think the wiki can reliably be kept up to date with this data.

Gathering the data in a (this?) thread could be useful though.

With up to 23 change times

With up to 23 change times per gate, trying to find the information you want in a forum thread sounds to me like FAR more trouble than necessary. And I don't think it's going to be any more up-to-date because it's recorded on a forum instead of a wiki page.

A page that lists the times in logical order and that anyone can edit strikes me as the ideal format. I'm sure that we aren't going to have every single time filled in, but I don't think the list has to be complete in order to be useful.

Feel free to create a subpage

Feel free to create a subpage in your user namespace to track data for projects like this. Probably doing it in a table would make it easier to parse. The advantage of tracking data on the wiki rather than in Google docs is that you can see exactly who added that 1 billion days gate change time. :)

Sometimes when it's information that I think has a number of folks who would contribute if they were not shy about learning to edit the wiki, I will have an associated thread to discuss the data collection project along with telling folks they can post their data there if they don't want to wiki.
