So I have an Aegis shield..

Based on what I've read on these forms I gather that my Aegis is a poor choice. OK then, so I've wasted time and money on the Aegis and after a fair bit of reading I gather I should be using the Grey Owlite Shield or Dread Skelly Shield. I'm after an all-rounder shield to go with my current all-rounder gear.

What would you, gentle reader, recommended?

Magma Driver (will be replaced by Polaris in a week or three)

Grew Owlite

definetly the grey owlite shield, got nice elemental defense and status resist

If you only want to carry one shield, Volcanic Plate Shield is a great choice. It has tons of health, works well in FSC and out.

Compared to Grey Owlite Shield it will break only a few hits sooner vs Gun Puppies. But also, it will only break a few hits sooner than Dread Skelly vs Fiends.

I often use my shield to absorb gun puppy and ghost kitten damage heading toward party members so the elemental damage reduction would be very useful.

Well, a lot of enemies deal pure non-normal damage in Tier 3, but as culture mentioned, It has tons of health, making it decent against everything.

Specialist shields are better at defending against specific monster types though.

I think your going to want

I think your going to want both Owlite (elemental) & Skelly (shadow). Then trad them out at terminals to suit the strata ahead. Keep that Aegis also, you may want it for beast or jelly stratums; though the Barbarous Thorn Shield would be a better piercing choice if you are a sword user.

VPS vs Owlite in FSC is debated. VPS seems to be better for taking direct duke mace hits, while Owlite would seem to be better for the rest of FSC. Which is better is going to come down to personal play-style & preference. I'm in favor of Grey Owlite, because I like to be able to use elemental defense for some strata (Gremlin & Construct).

Get a CoA for a shadow shield.

Only one shield? Get a Volcanic Plate Shield.

So far it's pretty much Grey Owlite Shield / Volcanic Plate Shield 50/50. I'm leaning towards the Volcanic Plate Shield.

Well it depends on your needs. In my opinion, the fight against Duke will be harder than anything else you encounter in the FSC. That said, VPS is obviously the best shield for fighting Vanaduke and certainly is an excellent option. However, it's not all about the Firestorm Citadel (well maybe it is) and if there's something else you struggle, with consider a shield to help you defend against that.

Ugh, I had an Aegis too...worst mistake I ever made.
