Hi, im not trying to start a controversial thread or anything where everybody gets on each others cases, just looking for a few opinions.
Id like a new sword, something that attacks differently than what i already have, and the line thats catching my interest atm are the piercing swords (barbarous/flourish series).

So i have a few questions, for those of u that have, or have had, either of the swords. How do they fair in clockworks? What are the pros and cons to them?
and does the barbarous normal attack slash the same way as the flourish series? and which charge attack is most useful?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated :)

Barbarous thorn blade

flourish and barbarous thorn blade are the EXACT same thing, damage and attack wise. the only difference is the charge. Flourish line has a 3 thrust lunge, which is a bit risky. barbarous thorn blade has a single swipe followed by a snarby hologram that bites the enemy and spikes that shoot out forward. so altogether i prefer barbarous thorn, due to the charge being both safe and powerful (plus who doesnt want to have a snarby bite stuff at your command?) but flourish has a strong (but extremly risky) charge. and the charge is the only difference, dmg is the same for normal hits.

right

FF's charge attack is good for taking out one monster. BTB's charge attack is good for knocking down a few clustered monsters. I've used both (on different characters). Which sword is better for you depends on your playing style. There are two other two piercing swords, which inflict status effects but do less damage and are generally considered to be less good, it seems. I haven't tried them.

Yes, getting a piercing sword is a good idea. When I got mine, it completely changed my view of fiends and beasts. A piercing sword cuts through them.

If you're looking into more swords, the key idea for you is to own one piercing sword, one elemental sword, and one shadow sword. Equip two of them, based on the gate map, and use them on the correct monsters, to inflict heavy damage on 4/6 of monsters and moderate damage on the other 2/6. Or equip all three, for heavy damage against 6/6 of monsters.

They're all good.

The piercing swords are all so similar that I don't think you can do wrong with any of them. I have a Dark Thorn Blade and a Furious Flamberge. The fire effect from the flamberge is really nice, even if a bit rare. I find it most useful where there are a lot of enemies, because then I can ignore the one that is burning, so it takes the full amount of extra damage, and concentrate on ones that aren't aflame. Against a single enemy, the fire effect is less useful because it won't do as much additional damage.

I'd say BTB is better for

I'd say BTB is better for Devilites and FF is better for Wolvers.
BTB's charge is faster (so you probably won't get a TV in your face mid-charge) and has a better range (so even a dodging devilite would eat some spikes), and you don't want to make Wolvers (especially Alpha Wolvers, especially mid-attack) dodge/teleport by launching a barrage of spikes (which are projectiles and thus trigger dodging/teleports).
Greavers, Silkwings, Chromalisk-type monsters and Trojans get wrecked by both.

two swords, right

Even though you carry only two swords at a time, you should still consider owning three swords, and taking the most suitable two into any given stratum, based on the gate map.
