New Damage Type

I was thinking, and while the game is perfectly fine with the 3 types of damage it has now, I thought of a new damage type that has probably been said before.

Light.

I mean, we have Shadow.

So like, Undead and Fiends could be weak to Light, Contructs and Grems could be Resistant, and Beasts and Slimes could be nuetral to it.

Seems viable to me, maybe even make some of the already seemingly "light" themed weapons this new type, like, DA and Nova Driver.

Maybe even create a new status that these weapons can inflict called Blind, making the enemy run around like crazy and maybe even randomly attack what it thinks to be you, but is its allies.

So like, Shadow has Curse, Light has Blind.

I dunno, just a thought...

wouldn't this fall under "elemental"? after all AP and DA both seem "light attributed"

this would also mean OOO would either have to reshuffle the weaknesses of the enemies and all the weapons that would be affected by this, or make new equipment or enemies to fall into this category

Grems and Costructs are resistant to Light, not Grems and Beasts.

Fiends and Undead are weak to Light, not Constructs and Undead.

Slimes and Beasts are nuetral to Light, not Slimes and Fiends.

And what you said makes no sense, AP and DA just because light attributed do not make Elemental all light, did you forget Brandish?

EDIT: And, I know already that this would happen, no need to mention it. They won't really need to shuffle damage types around on monsters, this is just a new damage type strong, weak, and normal to different types of the monsters we have now.

No need for a new Monster type, or Damage shuffle.

elemental seems to encompass lightning, fire, ice, and light i didnt mean to sound like it was only light

fiends are already weak to piercing btw

Elemental in games normally

Elemental in games normally encompasses Lightning, Fire, Ice, Light AND Shadow.

Why does Shadow get its own damage type but not Light?

I don't see how your argument is viable.

Also, okay? That would make AP an amazing Fiend slayer.

because OOO needed another damage type? i don't understand why you wish to make things more complicated by adding more elements to the mix, that's more work for OOO.

Did you even read my first

Did you even read my first post fully? I never once said I wanted or wished that they had a new damage, I said that this is just a thought and COULD be implemented to make the game even more diverse.

Please, read the Original Post fully before posting, that always makes things easier.

maybe being the operative word here... if you wanted it to sound like a thought, post it with a clear statement instead of a vague hope to spark a change

To be honest, I thought light was light back in the day. I don't see how Light is an element, but shadow is not. Under elemental magic usually darkness is actually the one put into it, and Light is considered white of a total different class of its own.

I'm not saying I want it, but I'm not saying I don't. I'm neutral on this matter because I like the idea, but perhaps Light would be a little much.

Don't post ideas in the SUGGESTION forum unless you are actually in favor of their implementation. If you post an idea here, people will (quite reasonably) assume that you are arguing in favor of it.

Your suggestion would result in some monsters being weak to 2 types while others are resistant to 2 types; that's a potential balance issue. It would also mean that either new weapons need to be created, or some existing weapons are no longer good for the same things they were when people crafted them, or both. Not to mention the additional work for artists and programmers and QA to implement it.

There's no practical limit to the number of damage types that COULD be added. Gotta draw the line somewhere. We already have what we already have, so if you want to recommend a new type be added, you should have a better reason than "I mean, we have Shadow." How would adding a new type (no matter what it was) make the game BETTER? Form follows function.
