It would be pretty neat if Guilds could design a custom crest and display that crest on a shield. I know all shields would not work for this, but the defender series would work perfectly (along with some other ones). It could be sold as a cosmetic shield upgrade for crowns. Probably the best way to go would be build an editor that would let players pick from different icons and colors to make up their crest.Guild masters could be in charge of designing their guild's crest. Could also make a personal crest option so non-guild people don't feel alienated too. Many players really strive to look different in this game & this could be a way to do that & create another small crown sink at the same time. It could be a special achemy machine to do the craft. Even better you could make this same achemy machine able to change knight personal color and name for a fee, but I am starting to get a bit off-topic.

One more related idea. It would be really neat if the custom guild crest was also prominently displayed somewhere in the guild halls.

great

yup, definitely a great idea, a lot of people wants to distinguish themselves from others in this game. and it would bring more meaning to be member of any guild cuz actually there's not much things you can do with it rather than making pvp parties or coordinating for a tier run for now.... so anything that adds to it shall be well recieved.

Sure +1

The crest can be like a hologramm displayed before shield ( like that crown mark on Ironmight shield http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Ironmight_Plate_Shield ) U also choose color for it( maybe Guild color ).

Currently all images/textures/models used by the game is already in the install. If there's a guild logo you'll have to download a megaton of images whenever you're in Haven, as you meet knights from different guilds.

Those images will be useless if you don't meet knights of that guild again, so you won't want to store them forever. So you'd set up a cache of rotating images - the last x number of different guilds that had entered your screen, a cache that will be rapidly updated as you move around.

It's not only your bandwidth, it will be a heavy blow to the servers as well, and people are already complaining about the servers being slow. The bandwidth load will be smaller if you limit it to Inspect screen, but I don't think that would achieve the effects you wanted.

It's great to have some ways to distinguish members of a guild, but I don't think a logo is the way to go.

Perhaps if OOO would further increase customization options - more parts on all items that can be set to a custom color/pattern. Then you can have guild colors/patterns no matter what gear you are in.

Flags

How about those flags that the defenders have in Lockdown? Perhaps the Guildmaster and Officers all have one to wear (they would look different to distinguish between the two).

In order to combat the problem Evilnut pointed out (which I concur with) it could be that all of the flags are pre-made templates with an in-game "item" for every combination, that way all of the computers already have the data and there would not need to be any updating every time a new person came into the area.

Template:
Flag Shape
-Triangle
-Rectangle
-Square

Primary Flag Colors:
- Same as the knight color selection only with two options

Guild Symbol:
-Choose from a modest selection of symbols (a hundred would be nice, simple things like sun, moon, bird, etc.)

Eah?
