Hi everyone, I'm Maximumlovepuppy (you can call me Maxi or puppy or w/e) and I've decided to go the gunslinger route. What are your recommendations to become a great gunslinger? I was thinking umbra driver, polaris, and some sort of back-up sword. For armor and shield, I have no idea. Please give me your ideas!
Best Starter Gunslinger set?
...has to be Calibur...Leviathan, which should be decent against everything and is often just used for pushback.
But it will be your fourth weapon. As a gunslinger you need your first 3 slots to cover all damage types. Avoid normal guns for the most part.
For starters you'll build only one shield, it can be Owlite Shield or Plate Shield line if you are going to Firestorm Citadel eventually. You can build more shields with different defense types as you go along and amass riches.
Are their any particular shields that give gunslingers bonuses or are they all just for defense? And how much is this all going to cost o.O
Sadly, we gunners don't have any Thorn Shield equivalent.
Unless you're talking about Swiftstrike Buckler (which benefits everyone with attack speed), but that won't go past 3*'
It will cost a lot eventually, but you should be profitable in tier 2 as long as you don't revive with energy. Try to join at the second half if possible.
I did everything to 3* then everything to 4*, etc. starting with weapons, then armor then shield.
Thanks for the advice Fern =D
In regards to armor, why shadowsun? It's piercing def and has negative bonuses, and I heard piercing def is bad.
It has gun damage bonus but some people like to pair nameless and shadowsun for the best of both worlds. :D
though, I don't like it too
So what would you recommend? xD
hey Maxi :)
I'm Abathur, Master Gunslinger. I do not recommend the Shadowsun. It decreases your resists and just gives you dmg bonus low. Nameless and Justifier gives you medium at attack speed. So in endgame, when you will have (yes you will :D) 2 tinkers, you can choose between asi and dmg bonus, so ...
Nameless/Justifier -> ASI very high
+ 2x DMG Bonus Tinker -> DMG very high
or
Shadowsun -> DMG medium
+ 2x ASI Bonus Tinker -> ASI very high
It makes no sense to take shadowsun, just if you want to have max on all weapons, but if you do so, you can not use the UV's of weapons that have dmg bonus vs XY low / medium. Also you will lose much attack speed, wich helps you way more than jsut med. dmg more ...
As Weapons I recommend you:
Elementary: Alchemer or Polaris (I prefer Polaris due the ability to prevent puppies from attack)
Shadow: Alchemer or Biohazard (I prefer Bio *_*)
Piercing: Blitz Needle or/and Callahan
This is allways a question. Why Blitz, why Callahan. Callahan will let you easy hit wolver and devilites, due the fast bullet speed. Blitz will deal much more damage but is most of the time just useful with a charge attack (wich outdamages the normal ones in dps) and then you mustnt miss the target. For example wolvers allways dodge, but if they charge they can't. Also against masses of them the fast bullets and spread will hit some of them, dealing more damage than Callahan. Against Devilites you have to be on mid or long range for killing them with a charge.
Let's say Callahan is easier to handle but if you can, Blitz will be better. I recommend to get both and take, what fits to you :)
If you want demos or have any questions, you can add me ingame or post it here! :)
Friendly greets - a non sword using gunslinger ... swords anyway deal less damage over time XD kekeke :P
Wow Abathur, thanks! I'll be sure to ask if I have anymore questions =D
Edit: Haha, just noticed that my name gets cut off under my avatar...
Its 2 letters to long at my screen :D
Maximumlovepup
py
:o
however, i'm at work atm (yea saturday work x.x) but you can add me ingame :3 <3 see ya girlie XD (youare a girl right?) :o
I'm new to gunslinging but here's a little tip.
Never reload, as the animation slows you down and makes you vulnerable to mobs' attacks.
Let's say the Alchemer series has a clip size of 2, to prevent reloading, you have to shoot one bullet- pause - shoot again.
The Pulsar/Catalyzer has a clip size of 3, you can shoot two bullets- pause - shoot another two more.
This allows you to shield mobs' attacks and get a higher DPS over-time.
Uhmm, Abathur, regarding what you said about having Nameless set and ASI trinket to obtain Maximum!, it will cancel my damage bonus?
Is there a huge difference between ASI of Very High and Maximum!?
I never said you should get maximum! Thats the big fault! Never ever get maximum. If you already have maximum, you won't get more if you get an UV oder any bonus like in Lockdown!
Go for 2x dmg tinker (= very high) and 2x speed armor (= very high)
Use to get 1x nameless and 1x justifier, so you got allround defense of normal, pierce AND ele ^^
Oh, I didn't know that, guess I learn something new every day.
Thank you so much!
Hmm, do you think CTR Med on a Biohazard would be good, I am considering about saving up for one of that.
SURE IT IS! For Biohazard there is nothing more important than CTR! If you got one it's awesome! I got one too with medium as uv and medium because its lv 10 and it takes me 0.8 secounds to charge :D <3<3<3
Yea there are 6 stages of increasing levels:
Low (1)
Medium (2)
High (3)
Very High (4)
Ultra (5)
Maximum (6)
If you have for example ASI low as armor + medium for your gun as uv, the gun has Attack Speed Increase High (1+2=3)
If you have for example ASI very high as armor + very high for your gun as uv, the gun has Attack Speed Increased Maximum (4+4=8->6 is maximum)
So it's good to have everything on very high than something on max so you can use UV's more ofteh and at Lockdown (pvp) there are some buffs too that won't have any effects if you allready have max ;)
Ahh, since the nameless/justifier set gives Very High ASI, it would therefore be unwise to invest in a Callahan with ASI Med as this blocks out the other bonuses that I may have. I'll leave it without UV then, CTR on Magnus line are useless since the charged attacks are only useful for vanity purposes.
0.8 Seconds charge sounds really awesome, *slurps*
I agree with almost everything Abathur has said, except if you want to have ASI, DO NOT use Justifier.
If you want to get piercing defense, use Shadowsun, the status weaknesses it gives you aren't as bad as it seems, only Phantoms and Faust charges can cause Curse, and poison weakness is still better than having a fire, shock or freeze weakness, unless you are continually up against DVS' in PvP.
And I think that the Damage Bonus is still useful, even when low.
Use full Namless if you really want that ASI, elemental defense will work much better than piercing.
Sol XII
Justifier - HELL YEA :D!!
Piercing and Shadow damage is upgcoming. Elemenal damage is leaving slowly. You just saw it at all new mobs that came -> Howlizer with shadow and Polyps with pierce. Then cam candlestick with more shadow damage and it's only a question of time when the next pierce levels are coming. Also it's not wise to use ele only. For me its anyway a must have for my hat, because I lucky bastard gained Perfo resist max and Shadow low on it :D However, i would not swich anymore. I used to wear full Ele earlier but it seems quite inefficient. Also i see many skolver with Divine Veil walking around, it seems to be that everyone wants to have allround resists - and thats superior.
I have to disagree far with the Shadowsun over Justifier. There is really NO reason why to take that one. How I explained before: You also have 2 tinkerslots. If YOU now go on Nameless Poncho and Shadowsun Hat, you will gain medium ASI and low DMG. You will take one ASI and one DMG tinker to increase your stats. So you got in the end very high ASI and just high dmg. If you gain Justifier with Nameless and 2 damage tinkers, you got both stats on very high and even have no (very annoying if once hit) poison and curse weakness.
I made many tests with damge or speed and i prefer speed by far. There are many factors at speed many ppl don't know. The most important is, that attack speed not only decrease the time between 2 bullets shot, it also decreases the time the knight uses to grab his gun or bring it back in normal position for 2 shot (or 1 shot at 2 shot guns) style. Also you will be earlier able to get normal movement speed back and you will be immediately be able to shield after every shot you made. Damage should come with tinkers later. Note that tinkers arent expensive: You can pay 100 of the 150 Energy without using crystal. So 2 tinkers à 50 energy makes 100 energy per month. 100 energy are about 6000 crowns not and this is 200 a day. Do you gain more than 200 crowns a day? I - guess - yes :D
(to build 2 dmg bonus med tinkers sadly 300 Kogmo Coinds AND 2400 energy is required x.X)
And b4 i forget: For they who don't know what 2-shot-style is: This means you shot one bullet less than a full clip of the gun is. This will result that you dont have to reload any all the time are able to move faster or shield. This is very important in higher Tier Combat or in PvP.
mfg Abathur :D
Wow so much good info! Thanks guys.
So right now I have a shadowtech alch and a voltech alch. I might switch those out later on when I get better.
I plan to get: Justifier jacket, nameless hat.
I don't know about shield or callahan/blitz needle.
Gunslinger sash is kinda costly. I'll have to save up for a while to get a piece lol...
Well for begin i would recommend you (if you have 2 weapon slots) a Polaris and Needle. This means bark modules :D Welcome to the beauty world of laggomania XD hrhrhr :P However ^^ You will know what i mean if you are there.
It does not matter if you have Justi armor and Nameless hat or converse, its just for stlye. Look at the wiki for more Informations:
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Justifier_Jacket
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Nameless_Poncho
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Justifier_Hat
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Nameless_Hat
Shield i think the best would be owlite at all. Its a good allrounder.
gonna add you :)
Lol. I got a Nameless Hat for costume purposes.
Abathur has the gun choices down though. Polaris, Blitz/Callahan (actually you want both- blitz for vana, Callahan everywhere else), Umbra/Biohazard, and a backup- CTR Levi is a good choice for clearing out of sticky situations. If you want to play gun primary, then you really need at least 3 weapon slots.
Armor-wise, gunners have it rough. Two Trueshots and a mix of Nameless/Justifier depending on your needs works well, and definitely get a Swiftstrike for T1/2 runs (even T3 if you're skilled). Although, if your guns have mostly ASI bonuses, maybe a piece of Shadowsun or even non-gunner gear just for better resists may be wise.
I think the justifier jacket would go well with my default helm as costume. Not sure what to make of trinkets yet.
In my attempt to obtain a UV CTR Med on my strike needle, I've wasted 80K crowns today. Dang, I should have used that money to upgrade my armor to 5*.
Ehemm.
*3 gunslinger set.
Weapons:
-Prisma tech/Kilowatt Pulsar ( Is very underrated, even when does more dmg than a volt or explosive shot from a pulsar -.)
-Shadow tech/toxic cat (Both are good)
-Magnus ( is a MUST to have)
"Advanced equip":
-Nova Driver/Polaris
-Umbra driver/ Biohazard
-Callahan
-Nameless/Justi and Crest of Almire ( Jack of all trades in Def)
-Deadshot ( only for vanaduke)
-Blitz needle (only for vanaduke)
-Shivermist (only for vanaduke)
-DMG trinkets x2
Goldmaker i cant agree with you in some parts:
- Deadshot is not only for Vanaduke. If you go into a Fiend or Zombie level (Candlestick :D) then allways use that and lose some asi. For me i use allways the same hat and jsut swich with my armor.
- Blitz Needle is never only for Vanaduke! Its the most powerful weapon in the game pwning wolver, devilites, gremlins, undead and everything else expect mecha and jelly! Its an allrounder!
I can agree with the point you made earlier Abathur, but I still stick with Shadowsun. Not everybody can afford the 5* trinkets, let alone the Trinket slots. Sure, if you want to waste your time or money getting a Mod Calibrator, 2000 CE, then 300 every month, Justifier or Nameless is the set for you (Nameless all the way <3, and plz OOO, make a gunslinger ONLY shadow gear).
But I'm speaking up for the people who don't want to do that much work (That''s right you lazies. I'm getting off the couch and going on the forums.), IMO that energy can be spent on better things, like trying to collect every piece of equipment.
And I agree with your post though, Blitz Needle does pwn and kill Wolvers, Gremlins and Devilites (MY BABIES!!!),
if it hits them. Wolvers could bite your ___ before you even press the right mouse button, and Devilites can dodge too, AND snipes with furniture, and while you're killing something, its cousin hits you with an ax.
What does happen if you miss? Monsters get a golden opportunity to take a chunk out of your life bar. I think the Callahan is a gun for more cautious gunners who don't want to die, the Blitz Needle? Risk-taking gunslingers that always try to catch that flying piece of furniture, or trying to give the Wolvers the last piece cake in their pockets while it's still in there.
For people who prefer not to waste energy or heat to revive, use Callahan.
"Sure, if you want to waste your time or money getting a Mod Calibrator, 2300 CE, then 300 every month"
No, just no, 2 Trinkets slots cost 100 energy if you have a ALT account and PvP its fun now.
"Cough 2 DMG trinkets cost only 2000 CE cough"
*Cough*I could use that energy to craft a 5* I don't have*cough*
And it's annoying enough to sustain Trinket Slots and Weapon slots, I'd rather have 4 guns than 2 buffed guns.
'Nuff said.
P.S. I said 2000 CE, not 2300.
The Tinkers are (800 + 400) x 2 = 2400 CE, 4 Calibers and some cash. It's expensive yes but its very useful. Then the slots are just 50 if you buy it from alt like Goldmaker said. Or even - if you don't play one day (how you said as not spending so much time in that game), that day would better to spend the 100 energy +50 CE for a slot than doin' nothing with it ;)
And Sol-Xii you just said it: Blitz Needle rocks, but if you miss your dead ... kinda extreme but kinda what i said too. I said that it needs much expiriences. I got them and so I'll never put Callahan over Blitz (expect for PvP). I can show you ingame if you want. I have no problems with anything. And for devilites: 10 Devilites can be downs so fast, but you often get hittet at least once from them. But in that long time it takes to kill them with Calla they probably will do so too at least once. I often have too many heal pots so i can affort to be hit sometimes:)
mfg ^^
Lots of three star stuff to save up for. Thanks for the maths you guys! xD
@Abathur
The logic you've presented is undeniably correct, but like you, I'm not putting down my weapon of preference. (It's fun knocking down gremlins)
It's true that to use any weapon correctly you'll need experience, (I guess I'll be practicing with Autoguns from now on XD) but it also depends heavily on their playing style. Autogun lines are good if you can anticipate the opponents movement and it's focused on number of bullets not the damage per bullet to kill quicker, Magnus lines are for sniping out of reach and to make up for the slow attack speed, reasonable damage per bullet and for people who are confident with their aim. IMO, in a fight against a Trojan or a bunch of piercing weakness monsters in a tight corridor, Blitz Needles for everyone! But in an arena full of hard to hit targets, my hand goes on a Callahan.
P.S. I'm also not spending any CE on trinket slots until I attain every piece of equipment line in the game ;)
Why Deadshot? It's not like it'll provide Gunslingers (That's us <3) with a special perk, the Shadow defense isn't at all great, and Curse? Really? Who would use Faust in FSC? Oh alright, Phantoms curse too (But no one ever wears it for that purpose.). Why not just use Skelly with a fire UV? The shadow defense IS better, there is no useless curse resist, and it looks waaaay cooler. (Even I don't know why I recommended it, maybe it's 'cause I like cowboys?)
To your first post:
Well to tell you - I use too Callahan and I'll do 2 shot against gremlins. But it depends on level if they fall back at every shot or if they fall back at every 2nd shot. This is also known as Stunlock and happens too with every bullet of the Blitz Needle CHARGE ^^ But I really like the Callahan too, it's sad id does not something like penetrating shot. Its sure not a waste, ist quite a good weapon, easy to handle :)
To your 2nd post:
These are all armors with Shadow Defenses:
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Armor_of_the_Fallen - Attack Speed Increase: Low / Damage Penalty vs Fiend: Medium - the 2nd thing makes me pretty much unhappy :(
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Divine_Mantle - no normal defense, but i think with a Justifier hat it still may rock, also because of the great UV's ... but then i realized that the hat of it also gives an additional bonus the mantle dont have. I think its still pretty good as a veil with a Justifier Poncho.
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Dread_Skelly_Suit - FIRE RESISTANCE DECREASE NOOOO D: - Fire blocks charging, deals huge damage, happens so often in FSC and this place is where you actually need shadow def the most! FSC = Fire Storm Citadel -> Endboss Place
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Radiant_Silvermail - no normal defense and still not as good as Divine Veil (Divine Mantle hat) with resistances
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Valkyrie_Mail - FIRE RESISTANCE DECREASE NOOOO D:
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Deadshot_Mantle - no negative aspects. You get dmg bonus vs Undead wich is in FSC nearly every mob, curse against Phantoms, but its not so important to have that ressistance :P At all - it does not decrease Fire Res, does not decrease something else and gives Shadow Def.
I think the best is the Deadshot or Divine thing.
- Abathur :)
(Don't mind above comments. I just love devilites.)
Thanks for the advice, Abathur. I'm going to go with Deadshot w/ Dread Skelly costume. After all, it looks kick-ass. ;)
just my 2 cents from a full gunslinger, go full nameless or nameless and justifier if you dont want to put all your eggs in one basket, in terms of shield owlite is the obvious choice cause of the benefits.
Guns,
Get an Alchemer, having both a hail driver and a polaris i can tell you a hail driver is infinitely better than the polaris in most situations DONT underestimate the ricochet, it out damages the polaris by a ten fold in groups of 3+ enemies if you aim correct (which isnt hard) same thing goes for the umbra driver.
I carry both a hail driver and polaris (as well as a callahan and umbra) but i use the hail driver most of the time, the times i use the polaris is basically vs gun puppies and single enemies, otherwise hail driver is much much better. And the faster bullets do make a difference, and with the polaris its not about getting used to the bullet speed, faster bullets will always be better than slower ones, on top of that alchemer charged shots are very useful.
heres a video, not mines. of alchemers in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ4uYM1sjJA
@ Chepo:
the video you posted just confirmes how crappy these weapons are... do i really have to upload a vid of me? seems so... well i just downloaded a crack ... ehm i mean a legal normal full version of fraps o.o''
somone can give me a GOOD video fusion and cut and and and ... ah you know what i mean, i'm missing the words in english :D programm ?? ^^
I now made a vid of Blitz Needle rap*** Wolvers ^^ Just need some programm to make one vid out of these 3 D:
I will post it here if I'm done :D
What armor should I get if I'm NOT planning to buy trinkets. I was thinking about Shadowsun or Deadshot set because I don't find ASI very beneficial (I don't use "shot wait shot" technique).
EDIT: I just realized I posted in wrong topic, but I still hope I can get an answer.
@Four-Eyes: No, Shadowsun Sucks, better go for the deadshot
now im going to explain why shadowsun sucks
MAX res reduced agaisnt curse and poison, Pierce def and LOW DMG UV.
Soo
to get MEDIUM DMG BONUS cost you 2000 CE + 50000 CR.
Now only with one Elite trueshot trinket = 1000 CE + 600 CE ( Trinket slot for 1 year) = MEDIUM DMG BONUS
"I don't use "shot wait shot" technique" ASI is alot better when you shot all you bullets..
Finally my Video is done :D
Here a good (i hope so) demonstration about the BLITZ NEEDLE and the BIOHAZARD. I'm pretty happy with my work :D First upload of a game I made <3 ^^
- Abathur :3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krJtNczQ5zU&feature=channel_video_title
@Abathur
Haha, that was great! You were having way too much fun with that Biohazard. I might have to get one of those... and you have to help me out with the twins!
Also, how do you add that awesome music to cover up the background music but not drown out the fight sounds?
Thank you ♥Puppy ^^ Its hard to be online while you are too, because I'm swiss and I've added you (sure i did! ♥) but you seem to be not on when i am D: But I will allways help you, my little puppy ^__^
That with the music is a bit strange... There is a hidden folder in the Spiral Knights folders, where the music is. I got a converter program so i got all the music and sounds in mp3 (these is a music i've never heard, i guess it's planed for the core o.o). So i disabled the ingame music, just activated sound, recorded, put in manually the right theme music and cut it at the funny parts :D
^____^ *be happy*
@Abathur Damm great vid man, now i want to change my umbra for a biohazard >.<
Oh wow that's some fancy video editing. I totally need to get a biohazard. I'm not totally sold on Polaris, maybe you should make a vid of that? ;)
I guess this will come too, since i bought myself an alchemer to test it against the polaris. It hard to decide ... really.
It's hard to decide between alchemers and the polaris? I kinda came to the conclusion that polaris is a grenade launcher and alchemer is like... a gun. lol.
Yea thats true, but the bullets are pretty annoying for allies and if there is more than one Polaris in a party it sucks because you just see mass mobs moving around, pushed by Polaris D:
I guess Polaris is better (also 3shot over 2shot :s), Alchemer more for teams.
I've had experience in gunning down wolvers, so this is my opinion. Hope it helps.
All-rounder
Handgun:
Polaris/Storm Driver
Umbra Driver/Biohazard
Callahan
Nameless set/Shadowsun-Nameless
Gray Owlite Shield/VPS
If you want to do FSC, Deadshot and Argent Peacemaker will do well too, or a mixture of Callahan and Polaris.
Welcome.
