concerning recipes
when using an item that has a required heat level. do I have to unbind the item first, and if i dont, does this mean the newly crafted item automatically binds to my character if i dont unbind the old item?

Yes.
It will lose heat. It will go to level 1, meaning you need to upgrade it to a specific level:
1, 5, 10

The following levels are mostly required for a recipe.
If you have a binded weapon as a crafting precursor, the newly crafted weapon will be binded to you. If you unbind the precursor, then I'm pretty sure the newly crafted item will be unbinded.
