i have an owlite shield with fire/shock and a medium uv curse resist but they do not seem to work. for example, when i catch fire and shield, i still take the same damage. also curse resist on a shield, is it useful at all? i have a faust but it doesnt seem to reduce the duration of the status when i shield. T_T
How does resistance work on shields?
There are numerous threads on this topic already--run a search and you'll find them. Resistance on shields doesn't apply in either of the situations you mention, however--if you're already on fire, shielding won't do anything for you, nor shield-canceling at the end of a GF's charge attack as by that point you have already been cursed.
Sorry if it has been done alot, but running a search with the keywords shield and resist will probably bring up tons of threads which is unrelated to what i am looking for. But since we are on this, if i may break it down for my understanding.
Shielding while already on fire doesnt reduce tge damage you take nor the duration am i right?
So what about shielding when you get hit by a flame throwing gremlin? If im not mistaken, elemental defense on the shield takes care of the damage right? so where does that leave fire resist?
Correct--fire resistance on armor reduces the chances of receiving fire from an attack/reduces the duration and amount of dmg the fire does if you do get fire status, but shielding won't help. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only status-based dmg that shielding will outright protect you from is shock, but you don't need shock resistance on the shield to gain that benefit--just shield while shocked and you won't take the shock dmg.
Correct--elemental defense on the shield would help block the elemental part of the attack, same thing with normal defense vs. normal dmg, etc. The fire resistance on the shield lowers the chances of receiving fire status from the gremlin's attack in the first place.
I'm not usre but some attacks like the zombie's breath only do status and no damage at all. Maybe shield protect you from those?
Those breath attacks still damage the shield if blocked.
Guess it helps?
The way I understand it. Fire resistance on a shield will allow the shield to soak more damage from fire attacks before it breaks. It will not protect you from being set on fire once the shield breaks; that is the job of your armor/helm. Same goes for the other status resistances on shields.
So in Vyftien's flame thrower gremlin example it would depend on the Tier you are on and the attack the scorcher is using. The basic flame thrower (cone of fire) attack does fire status damage, so if you are shielding its the shields fire resistance that is doing the work of taking that damage not the elemental protection. The scorcher's ranged bolt attack is pure elemental and in T3 they can do a fire wave which is both elemental and fire. At least according to the wiki the basic flame attack from scorchers is just fire, I really would have thought that it was fire/elemental.
Either way your shield's fire resistance (if it has it) allows you shield to last longer before it breaks, but doesn't protect you from catching fire once it does break.
F.Y.I. scorchers are so pitifully slow just watch their attack animation, side step, & back kill them while they are taking forever to burn the empty ground where you were previously standing (I usually have time to charge before they finish their attack).
The resists on shields only come into play when you're shielded up and take a hit from a fire/shock attack. It lets the shield stand up a little longer against the certain elements it resists.
