Creating Alts - is there a point?

Hello... pretty new to the game here, just picked it up over the weekend (and yet already spent 40 bucks on crystal [stuff].... >.>)

I've noticed that alts share mist energy between the account. What's the point to making second characters? Wouldn't it make more sense to just work on more swappable item sets on your main toon for different playstyles?

Thanks!

Since you already have a paid

Since you already have a paid account, you can make another separate account on the same computer and the mist won't be shared. I have more than one character as it can get a bit dull waiting for new content once you get used to tier 3 and the current endgame. Building up another character can be a fun way to experiment with radically different builds from what you are used to with your primary character.

Why create another knight to experiment with a different build?

I can see it facilitating experimentation by leveraging the extra mist buffer for more playtime, but on the other hand having all of your gear accessible to one character allows for more combinations to test out. There is no analogue in SK for respec costs, at least that I am aware of, so I do everything under my sole character name. When I can justify spending money on a video game, hopefully soon, I am not really sure how to divide up my mist consumption into thirds.

I guess some one also might want to create a "fresh" character to have a less cluttery recipes list, or possibly something as small as using a different player colour. I have not yet found a "do not disturb" button to indicate that I am not logged in for party diving, so that occurs to me as another possible reason to create an alt. It would be more expensive, though, since at least some gear would very likely have to be earned multiple times, but for players who have paid money the extra mist should outweigh that in the long run.

CE for my main...

Yeah, I buy CE with my alt (this account) sometimes. Using my phone credit.

I can't do that with my steam main.

If you have a paid account then...

...a second account can be made and its mist energy can be used for various applications like:
1. crafting using spare materials and mist for selling and UV hunting
2. buying slot upgrades
3. running the clockworks with the alt

Also, if people have steam accounts (like me) a non-steam account is useful for playing elsewhere, such as internet cafes or on computers of relatives that don't have steam.

Though, if I'm going to experiment with builds I would still do it with my main account.

I think what he means is is

I think what he means is is there any point to the 2nd and 3rd extra character slots on every account, seeing how mist is shared and EQ isn't.

....my guess is none.
