Theres very little you can do

Theres very little you can do resolve it. Any intel graphics from the GMA series is very hit & miss. They don't properly support all of the OpenGL extensions the game uses, and it tends to cause problems.

Your only options are to update to the latest intel direct drivers, and run the game in Compatibility mode, which disables transparency and some particle effects.

^^^^^^In addition, also play

^^^^^^

In addition, also play on low resolution. And run the game in 16-bit, windowed mode. It doesn't prevent it from ever happening, but at least it fights against it far better than if you stay in 32-bit. (or 64, if you have it.)

How do you run a 32-bit

How do you run a 32-bit application in 16-bit mode? Or are you talking about the 16/32 bit color depth in the resolution settings?

The color quality settings.

The color quality settings. Sure it looks crappy, but if it makes the game work better, then anyone with crash and lag issues should definitely try it and see how it works for them.
