Will this Theoretical Set Work?

Basically I'm building anew from Theory.

To begin, I'm an old fart. I am a PvE enthusiast who started back in beta several months before official launch, and my idea/dream set was always the Azure Guard set. After release I was able to make and craft it several times over (which i didn't, but.. you know. I had the resources.), but the game's world changed. I'd successfully completed my Aegis and Levi when the update that changed the common damage type from Normal/Elemental to Piercing/Elemental came, so after I made my Azure set I worked up to obtain both Skolver and V. Salamander. But now, things have changed again.

With the reworking and upgrading of challenge areas/danger rooms I was forced to consider something more practical. I took several things into consideration: 1) Normal element attacks almost NEVER hit me, EVER, and if they do my Aegis is up. 2) Alpha Wolver cheap-shots are freaking annoying and snag most of my health. 3) Gun Puppies and turret-based monsters are my arch-nemeses in t2 and t3 areas.

So, I devised this set in theory for general all-tier usage: (for the tl;dr you can read from here)

Divine Veil
Dragon Scale Mail
Aegis (or Grey Owlite Shield, it's interchangable)

----------(3-weapon Mid-range hybrid Swordsman build weapons, optional disregard)
Final Flourish
Iron Slug
Leviathan

Can anyone foresee any major drawbacks from this kind of a set during regular PvE runs? Also, am I thinking on the right track?

no normal protection

You don't have any normal protection on your helmet or armor. Even on Stratum 6, normal damage is still being dealt a lot, mixed in with non-normal damage. Are you sure that no normal damage is reaching you? And when you said "Normal element", did you mean "normal damage" or "normal and elemental"?

Normal type actually

I meant "Normal damage." I really don't get hit by full-on normal damage much at all. If I do, it's usually a stray gremlin hit which is rare for me.

I was figuring my shield would make up for it, but I'm typically struck a ton by elemental shots from gun pups

Those pesky Devilites

IMO, (Anyone can correct me)

The first mistake: Aegis. BTS is better for Piercing defense, it can also give you Sword Damage Bonus. (OWLITE IS AWESOME)

Second: Iron Slug??? VALIANCE. If you want a sniper, get Callahan. Iron Slug can stun you: Callahan and VALIANCE won't. 'Nuff said.

Third: If you hate piercing, Why not Silvermail? It's another Drake Scale line. It'll also give you Shadow def and Undead Damage bonus.

Fourth: BTB is better than Final Flourish in terms o fCharge Attack: It can hit many enemies at once, where Final Flourish is pwnage against one enemy, like a Trojan.

Overall, Dragon Scale, Divine and Levi are good choices.

IMO

Normal + Piercing is actually a good combo since Elemental swords and Shadow swords are only "half" their element, meaning half the bonus. This is a pretty decent tradeoff considering Levi's powerful charge attack.

FF vs BTB choice is based on charge attack, you're free to choose which one you want. My alt has a BTB and I kind of like it better though.

I agree with the others' assessment on the Iron Slug, it blows. You might as well go with Valiance or Supernova for normal damage, or Polaris. (Good to have elemental as long range, since it's tough to shoot beasts and gremlins anyway, and they are the monsters strong to Elemental damage)

Owlite works to shield against gun puppy shots. Now that polyps and howlitzers are available though, you might consider building an entire set of shields, one for each damage type.

Alternatively, Drake Scale Shield is Piercing+Elemental though, if you want to protect against both those at the same time with your shield.

I don't know what Iron Slug

I don't know what Iron Slug you guys have been using, but my Iron Slug does not stun.

ANYTHING.

Not me, not the enemy.

It does however, sometimes interrupts turrets and knocks down anything that dodges, in exchange for crap damage and no stun.

Anyway, I happen to have that armor combination, but it's not one I use.

Wow, that doesn't look too bad

@Avixi
Wow, that doesn't look too bad at all. Looks like it could use more piercing def though...

Yeah, Iron slug has no stunning capabilities at all, and mine has damage v. Gremlins High as a UV so I usually use it for knocking down/sniping healers. It also does more damage than Callahan to make up for the lack of stun iirc, but I do have both a Vali and Supernova so I can swap them out to see which works better for comfort.

Silvermail is piercing/shadow, isn't it? I.. erm.. don't know what i would do with all of that shadow defense. It sounds aesthetically cool though!

Well...

Stun or no stun, I would still recommend against slug because there are more "mobile" normal damage alternatives. I don't think I would shoot turrets with the Slug or Callahan (let's ignore the fact that piercing is bad against 66% of turrets)?

Anyway Callahan is better as healer snipe, your UV would've also made it good against silkwings too.

Sadly, it was luck.

Probably, but i only got that UV at the craft of IS; I didn't have it as a Mega Magnus.
