There are quite a few nice looking items out there that don't have 5 star upgrades. Weapons that usually start around 0 Stars and end at 1 or 2. Or even decent weapons that never make it to 5 stars. Here's an example of a few:

http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Big_Beast_Basher
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Heavy_Hatchet
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Super_Slime_Slasher
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Thwack_Hammer
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Super_Stun_Gun
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Firecracker

And not only weapons with potential, but armor. Here are some examples:

http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Groundbreaker_Armor
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Spiral_Scale_Mail
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Blazebreak_Armor
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Vitasuit_Deluxe
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Scarlet_Shield
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Green_Ward
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Swiftstrike_Buckler
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Cyclops_Cap
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Mining_Hat

And there are even more items out there that could use upgrades to 5 stars. There's lots of potential out there. If Three Rings makes good upgrades for these weapons and the rest that are left at low stars, people might make and use them.

the problem is with

the problem is with ragecrafting mainly, u need to address that first before something like this can be applicable, or else we have the same issue we had with the haze bomb b4 they updated it

you forgot the scarlet

you forgot the scarlet shield, a great concept that can turn into a beating heart for a 5* version

Well, here's the thing.

@Madadder
Well the thing is, rage crafting is possible with ANY item. Most of the time you're wasting money trying to get a good UV which doesn't always happen. Not to mention that ragecrafting isn't necessary anymore since you can buy a mod calibrator and make UV modules to compliment your loadout. OR you could always gamble it out with Punch and get 1 to 3 UVs depending on how much you want to spend on your weapon. So in all honesty, there will be no problems here. Most players already have great weapons, armor and modules, but if Three Rings makes good upgrades for the weapons that don't have 5 star upgrades, people might find good alternatives to their same old weapons and armor. Not to mention that my idea will help newbies a lot. Therefore there really shouldn't be any problems.

@Wezz
I totally agree. I should add that to the first post.

the difference is it costs 50

the difference is it costs 50 energy and 400 crowns for one piece of 2* equipment compared to 10 energy and 200 crowns for 1*. mod cals cost like 10k? then the cost to make it into the UV module, some would prefer ragecrafting for the same chance especially if they refuse to use modules like me. punch's prices are too high for a lot of people and rather take their chances with crafting.

I'm all for new armor/weapons to give more options to the mainstream stuff but not if its going to become ragecraft central and yes there will be ragecrafting since people prefer the low cost of 1* it doesn't matter what you have to say to denounce it, you give something to a group a players they will find a 1001 ways to use and abuse it.

i have an idea on how to solve ragecrafting... limit how many times a certain item can be crafted, much like how they limit basil recipes

>implying implications

You DO realize that people can rage craft with almost anything and it hasn't affected the game's balance at all?

While rage crafting might be cheap, you would have to craft a lot of items before you get even a crappy variant. It's tedious and risky with a low success rate. Cheap, yet tedious. Mind you that not everyone cares about variants because Skill>Weapons. And anyone with half a brain that wanted a good UV bonus to compliment their loadout would buy either a module or a UV with Low, Medium or High in something.

Let's not forget that these items without 5 stars aren't really the best out there. They have potential, and sure they might be decent alternatives, but they're not the best as many of us already have our dream loadouts. And believe me, I've rage crafted before and it hasn't gotten me anywhere. I'm probably one of the unlucky ones. But I have a great Tier 3 setup so I'm not mad.

While I understand your points and counter-points, rage crafting really isn't that much of a problem. But if it worries you so much, let's say that you'll have a higher chance of getting Unique Variants if you craft stronger weapons, and vice versa. That way, crafting weak weapons for UVs won't work, and people will get rewarded for working hard to get a stronger weapon. But that's another idea, and you're free to post a thread about how you can "Reduce rage crafting" in the suggestions forum, as I have quite a few ideas to help ease the problem. Not that it's a major one anyways.
