What to Pair With These?

I plan to be a vortex bomber, and I'm going to carry 4 weapons. Here are 3:
Slot 1: Voltedge.
Slot 2: Acheron.
Slot 3: Electron Vortex.
Slot 4: ????????

I want a gun to be my 4th, for those parts where a gun is very useful.
I was thinking probably a normal damage gun, maybe Valiance? But my acheron could probably handle monster weak to shadow, so Polaris then?
My question in short is, what should I take a side arm? Argent Peacemaker is out of question, and so are shadow guns.
So, Normal, Elemental, or Piercing?

P.S. Just FYI, I'm not looking for a gun to pair with the vortex. Just one as a backup is I need to resort to gunning.

Thanks!

To stick with the question, a piercing gun would be the most obvious choice. Since you use a vortex, a needle (piercing autogun series) seems to be the way to go, as it can take advantage of the vortex.

Another option would be to use Polaris, to do massive amount of damage with expanded shot in the vortex. But you wouldn't have any piercing weapon. That's off what you ask, but i would advise to replace the Voltedge (shock + elemental would be covered by Polaris) and taking a BTB instead in that case : you would still have all 3 damage type covered, and the BTB charge can also take advantage of vortex.

Hah.

I apologise to not making it clear really, I'm not really looking for a gun to pair with the vortex, just a gun as a backup.
And Bigfootm, I didn't give up gunning all the way, sometimes I imagine I'll switch. I kinda got bored with guns for the moment.
I might go back to them soon enough when I get bored of swords. I might explore bombs. Lol.

Piercing sword, elemental alchemer

I'd trade the voltedge for a piercing sword and grab an elemental alchemer (cryotech is my favorite, but all 3 are good) or elemental pulsar.

Things weak to piercing (wolvers and devilites) tend to dodge bullets, but piercing swords are wonderful against them. Meanwhile, the best things to shoot are turrets (sometimes you can't get to them with a sword because of spikes). All turrets will either be weak (puppies and howlitzers) or neutral (polyps) to elemental. I also find an elemental gun to be the best way to destroy retrodes because you can shoot over low barriers and floor gaps but they can't.

Double Post Monster!

I was bitten by the double post monster, but eventually dispatched that beast with my Furious Flamberge.

Support side arm

For a swordsman, I always give the same advice : get a Polaris as a side-arm. It will help you deal with the most problematic enemies for a swordsman : turrets, lumbers, retrodes. Mobs that resist elemental are those you shouldn't use a gun to deal with anyway (or a specialized one).

Don't go Supernova you goof,

Don't go Supernova you goof, that will knock the enemies out of the vortex, before the damage of the bomb goes off. A variety of the autoguns is obvious here. Preferably as mentioned one of the piercing versions. Why? You lack piercing, and once grouped up in the vortex, you will be safe enough to use an auto gun, and aiming the thing wont be hard because they're all right there, and the all will be hit. Easy as that. Plus by the time the bomb starts collecitng enemies you'll have your autogun charged and ready. A brilliant combo really.

^^

The title says "pair with these".

So now the posts answer the "sidearm" question and the "vortex pairing" implication.

Back on topic, I thought the vortex would keep the enemies inside while Pulsar gun line does AOE?

Pulsar series has a very powerful knockback. Therefor the first hit would knock the enemies out of range, preventing any further damage until you actually move into range again.

Valiance is a one target

Valiance is a one target weapon, which would minamize your dps to a group of crowded monsters. Seriously. Autogun.

Brandish + Alchemer sounds great.

Piercing is not covered by the gear already specified, but it's also not strongly required if you already have Elemental and Shadow covered. More importantly, situations that favour a gun also tend to favour Elemental and disfavour Piercing, so +1 on the notion of trading one of those swords for a Snarbie or Flourish and going with an Alchemer. If the Elemental sword is deemed too important to give up, then trading the Acheron for an Umbra Driver should also work. Howlitzers are resistant, but in my experience the Snarbie tears them up right quick and the Flourishes should all do the same. The only likely problem is if there are fiends or undead that you only like to handle with a gun. None come to my mind, but I don't want to take that for granted...

If you MUST have both Brandishes and the bomb, I might go for a Normal-type gun in your shoes. There are a lot of choices there; Valiance, paths for both Roarmulus guns, Iron Slug...
