As I was playing as a Recon in LD, I noticed that I could see through my Helm to what was underneath, and guess what I saw? Lets just say our Knights have an oval-ish shaped head. So I suppose that means we don't have floaty eyes, and instead they're attached to our head and the blackness is actually a head.
So yeah, one mystery down.

Tip: Try using F12 if
Tip: Try using F12 if Print-Screen doesn't work. Also, I kind of know what you're saying, when I have my Vog equipped as recon (which isn't very often because I hardly play recon) I can see 2 yellow marks which I assume are eyes and what resembles a head-ish thing.

This is simple to solve...
I figured this out a while ago.
If you want proof of this, look at the Steam trading picture. The knight's face has a shape, and isn't just covered by shadow.

I'm having trouble picturing that, is there anyway you took a screenshot/could take one?
Unless you mean the head is like an egg with eyes bugging out of it
