PROLOUGE: The sword struck the ground like distant thunder, Ether glided to the side with a macabre smirk and watched with amusement as the flustered knight tried to free his sword from the ground. He never got the chance, Ether slammed into his side, the full "weight" of his non corporeal body, wrenching the sword from the knight's grasp, along with his hand from it's socket. The knight howled in pain and rage, and swung his remaining fist in fury, the blow narrowly missing Ether's head, and reminding the audacious Spookat that the knight was not totally inept. While the knight was still realing from the force expended by his own blow, Ether slipped beneath his already damaged arm and wrenched it completely from it's socket. The knight's shriek was so earsplitting. Blue sparks, and viscous fluid spurted from the knights now armless right shoulder, Ether ducked low to avoid a stray shot from another knight and barreled into the opponet in front of him, hitting so hard that the knight's eyes dimmed and flickered. The dying knight landed with a satisfying thump. Ether shook his head free of stars, and paused to examine his surroundings, all around him knights, and his fellow Spookats bit, hit, shot and otherwised maimed eachother in every direction. Ether sidestepped as a bulky knight burried a lethal looking hatchet in the ground where Ether had been only moments before. This was the largest raid of Spookat territory since the Invaders had landed in their dying ship. Ether had already terminated six knights, and he was just getting started.

I'll update this story every chance I get, this is my first fanfiction, so bear with me.

CHAP 1

Ether eyed a paticularly ferocious looking knight, and watched with horror as it burried an enormous silver sword in the back of an unlucky Bloogato. Ether didn't particularly like Bloogatos, for they were unfriendly, and sharp tounged creatures, but their was no way he was going to let this knight slaughter his kin with inpunity. Ripping the jet pack off a dead knight, Ether powered through and above the chaos, giving both Spookat and knight alike pause. "YOU DIE!" he snarled dropping the jetpack, and burrying a stolen ascended calibur up to it's hilt in the stomach of the knight. Howling in inarticulate rage the knigh swung a treetrunk like appendage in the avenging Spookat's direction, Ether ducked low and feinghed to the right before plucking one of the knight's scarlet eyes right out of it's socket. The behemoth roared and tried to intimidate the spookat with his superior size. Bad move. Ether shoved his charged master blast bomb directly into the exposed eye socket of the looming warden. "My eye!" "My eye!!" "It burns, you stupid Spookat scu-" BOOM!! The knight wobbled on it's now headless body for a moment before falling to the ground with a tremendous thump. Ether licked his lips in satisfaction as cats sometimes do, and failed to see the sword that buried itself six inches into his back. "Wha-?" "One less vermin to trouble the Spiral order." remarked a silky female voice. Ether gave a strangled yowl before collapsing onto his back. He gazed up at the wiry frame of the knight who had bested him. "What, you can dish it out butcha can't take it?'' "That's the problem?" her lips twisting into a rictus smile, she twirled the sword in her hand, and brought it's pommle down directly into the spookat's prone face. Ether sank into blissful oblivion.

CHAPTER 2

Ether blinked. The sky didn't look right.............. it seemed to be spinning.... and after a moment he realized it was probably just his vision. He tested his wings, and winced in pain at the sharp twinge in his back "wha-?" he blinked again, and shifted into a crouch with a groan. The ground was littered with the bodies of Spookats, and Knights alike. With a few feeble flutters of his tattered wings, Ether pulled himself into a standing position, His tail lashed in pain as a fierce burst of pain tugged at his back. Slowly, carefully, Ether threaded his way through the corpses. Who had won? it was rather hard to tell... but if he had to guess it was the Spookats, for their numbers had been greater to begin with, and their were fewer Spookat bodies on the ground. It had all started when the invaders had crashed directly into an icolated populace of Spookats, and said population had attacked, and left the knights for dead. And so began the eternal animosity between the two species. The Knights built their base of opertations; Haven, as they called it, and immediatly began to wage war on the Spookats and for that matter, every other non-human creature in the clockworks. Isolated skirmishes quickly bloomed into all out battles between the two groups. Spookats had the greater numbers, and could survive nine "deaths", But the Knights were more organized, and better equiped.

The particular battle Ether had been involved in was due to the fact that Ether's clan dwelled with in a maintainace catacomb that the knights apparently thought led to the Core. When the Spookats had refused to leave peacefully, the Spiral order had seen fit to send a team of 36 well equipped knigts to "relocate" them, which had translated to slaughter them. After an hour or so of drifting through the battlefield, Ether eventually came to the border of his village, and braced himslef for what he would see. Smoke drifted lazily form several burnt looking dwellings, but other than that, the village looked relatively intact. Moving with renewed vigoure, Ether ghosted down the hill and announced himself with a cautious, but loud yowl. In answer came a chorus of mews. Trilling in reply Ether moved over a rise to see several of his kin attempting to right a fallen dwelling. "Hey there, your name's Ether right?" "Mind giving us a hand- if your up to it?" "Actually... I think I could use a hand myself..." and then Ether fell; his meager strength depleted by his journey. Alarmed voices that seemed farmiliar, but far away echoed in his ears.

Okay... chapter 3

Ether groaned. Damnit all if the world wasn't spinning again. "Stay still!" snapped a decidedly female voice. "Merow, wha-?" Ether half meowed, have sighed. "Stay still unless you want ninetyseven lives instead of ninetyeight." Grumbled the voice yet again. ether shook his head slightly to clear the fog of pain and exhaustion, and turned his head to see who the speaker was. "Your a Mewkat, I thought Mewkats were supposed to be friendly." "Our sworn duty is to save lives, and it's hard to repair a six inch gash in your back if you keep moving." the mewkat's normaly jovial expression was tightened in consentration as she delicately maniplutated the needle in her paws. "There, that ought to do it." she said a hint of pride turning her voice half to a purr, she stepped away to regard her handywork. Contrary to the belief of the pathetically ignorant Spiral Order, Spookats are extermely hard to kill, due partially to the fact that they have ninetynine lives. However, the wounds that causes the "death" lingers, and can cause further deaths if it is not administered to. Thus, Mewkats, a group of peacefull, but brave Kats are assigned to healing those killed, or injured on the battlefield. This particullar mewkat was beautiful, with the small, sleek phisique mewkats often have, but with green eyes instead of blue, and a few light violet stripes running horizontaly across her back. She smilled. "Your names Ether, yes?" "yeah, and your name is...?" "Violet." "Of coarse... for your stipes." chuckled Ether, suddenly feeling like an itiot. It figured, that the first thing he did was get a crush on the kat that saved his life.
