I was thinking of just spending CE on buying the desired aura I want, but maybe it's my over confidence with my own luck, I just had to keep rolling and attempt for better accessories, so in the end I'm bankrupt, with a lot of accessories in my inventory.
What made me quit this game
Well thanks for the comments. Many of you tell me it's a problem with addiction and you can't really blame 000 for someone else spending too much money. In my eyes that's just half the truth. If a casino opens it's doors to the public they know exactly some people know no bounds. Everyone that takes part in this is guilty too. It doesn't really matter who is behind all those "money making" decisions
Fact is 000 provides the players with these services and they know some people will suffer from it.
Personally I didn't quit just because I felt I paid too much money on the game (which I clearly did though), it was mainly because I got the impression to be in some sort of online casino dressed as cute little fantasy game. After 4 months I also felt like it's too boring to continue. Except for showing off at the ah how much money I've spent there really wasnt anything else to do.
Someone also noted I try to compare my addiction to other players who know their limits. Let me tell you this: Addiction comes slowly and the day you cannot just uninstall Spiral Knights you are in trouble. I've seen many players on the edge of this and I don't want to take part in any way to make them lose money.
As for my "own little therapy" I do more sports in the morning (before work). It's a pain in the ass to stand up almost 2 hours before work and go to that fitness room. But when I'm done I know I've achieved something without the help of my credit card (yeah yeah I know! Food and memebership don't count!)
Aaand of course I continue playing PC Coop and PS3 games. Gaming plays a major part in my life.
Great thread Laverna, you have many fantastic points and they coincide with my own reasons for losing interest in this game.
For me I have absolutely no guilt in giving tons of my own money to games that I love, I've never been good with money since anything that isn't budgeted to food/bills is considered magical fun money in my mind. The only other games that I've spent as much money on are an independent game which ended up becoming some fat lazy cow's cash scheme; TF2 which I will forever love even though now it's not really possible for me to enjoy it in the same way that I did years ago.
Sadly I don't think I even want to spend time watching what Spiral Knights will become. I don't plan on spending any more money, I don't even feel like buying CE from other players since that just fuels their need to spend real money. I only plan to use my mist energy every now and then, keep my website up for my guilds benefit, play with my cousin, and pop in whenever they feel like adding content that isn't ways to get me to pay them money.
tldr; accesories are cool but content>customization bai bai
"I got the impression to be in some sort of online casino dressed as cute little fantasy game."
So... the gameplay, the levels, the enemies, the recipes, the items, etc... are all just dressing to hide the crippling gambling traps of Punch & accessories?
What?
I understand you quitting the game if it's not fun anymore... or quitting the game because you're too addicted to the game...
But to call Spiral Knights a casino and that OOO profits from peoples suffering ("Fact is 000 provides the players with these services and they know some people will suffer from it."), that's just ridiculous.
I fail to see what you're trying to do here... are you trying to get other people to quit too?
Look, I understand gaming addiction. I knew 3 different people in college who gave up their life to WoW and failed out. But gambling addiction? Really? Spiral Knights?
Isn't the whole unique variant on an item what the community wanted before it was ever in the game?
How is it any different than rage crafting, like they did before the update, to even get one mediocre UV on an item than going to Punch and getting a guaranteed UV on your item. You are GUARANTEED an UV.
Three rings put this in to HELP us. Think about all the CE and crowns people wasted rage crafting to get UV's before that update. Compare that to being guaranteed a UV. They even took out the sleep UV so it wouldn't waste our money.
What you have you don't want/isn't enough and what you don't have you don't have you constantly want and search for.
All three rings has done is take in our suggestions and make it a bit profitable to them and to help the SK community.
I don't know how you are in your personal life, and it's none of my business. I just wish you well and hope that you enjoy life to the fullest.
I completely understand the point you have with accesories, but punch is a different matter. Your only gambaling crowns, that you can get for free.
On a side note, making a topic named "why I quit the game" seems kinda trolly and in OOO's face, though you don't seem like a trolly person.
Excellent job. If you think your spending too much, then I admire you for having the courage to just take this game out of your life.
I'm a free player, and I still think calling this game a casino is a bit harsh.. I agree with Dancinjen's post up there.
Nooo Laverna! This makes me sad. I feel like the last Mohican.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO LAVERNA NOOOOOOOO ;______________;
... sadface :c I loved to creepystalk you.
But if it's good for you.. ;-; I wish you the best in whatever else you'll do.
There's always the option of just NOT spending money, just develop a sense of will power and you won't spend more then you should.
Also, calling the game a casino is quite a stretch since there is no forcing you to spend money, like with Punch, who really cares what UVs you have, the chance you get in crafting I find is more enjoyable. And the way you're saying it is like it's all OOO's fault.
You leaving means nothing to me since your just another player who feels the need to tell the entire game they're leaving.
IRL Casinos in my country check peoples IDs at the entrance. They check for age and also won't let people in if they are registered gambling addicts. Just sayan. Oh, and you can't enter without a suit or tie or something in that direction.
IMHO this gambling issue is still not a reason to quit.
Instead, real reasons to quit would be:
1. Candlesuck, because it kills parties really fast in all tiers at all depths and you can't avoid it sometimes (e.g. "?" random next levels or there are only Candlesuck levels next). So you spend 10 ce for entering the level (plus maybe some revives and a join fee in crowns) and often end up in a negative result, because you die and give up before you could earn them back.
2. Some annoying weapons and folks who make use of them, excessively (i.e. Blast Bomb series, Pulsar series and some heavy and fast pushing swords). With those targeting for other party members becomes a matter of luck and enemies are pushed towards them, so they are hurt a lot with no real chance to escape.
3. Large amounts of players, who don't behave lady like or gentleman like. The game technically allows for abusive behavior of various kinds towards other players (e.g. removing players from parties in situations, meaning certain death for solo players or pushing enemies with the shield towards them, so they die and the evil person can revive them to get their heat, even tho heat is not that hard to get in a nice way).
IMO the UV gambling machine is just to add a UV to some 5 star equipment, that didn't get a (useful) UV by crafting. UV's don't have a high impact IMHO. So you add them, if you have currencies left after all your stuff is finished.
I think, too, the silver key price is a bit high, for getting a random item; but on the other hand, when all your stuff is 5 star and you play tier 2 or 3 a lot and can play in a way that doesn't require lots of reviving ... in that case, you will probably have some leftover energy to spend on keys and boxes. If you don't find what you want in that situation, you can still preview it at Bechamel, screenshot it, upload the image to the wiki and auction the accessories. That way other players will get what they want in a non-random way by previewing things in the wiki and buying it from AH.
Of course, the things I explained in the last 2 paragraphs require players to act in certain logical ways. It is still possible for them to be overwhelmed by their emotions and do crazy things like spending all their real life money on silver keys, excessive revives, UVs, slot upgrades, amplifiers and Lockboxes.
how is this gambling? you don't even win any real cash.
what's next? blaming mcdonalds for making you fat?
the real sad thing is that people are blaming others for decisions THEY make. unless 3 rings sent a rep to persuade you to spend your money, then it's all you.
I think most people have missed Laverna's point.
It's not about if he's an addict, or if OOO/SK made him an addict.
Simply put
*He no longer respects OOO for the design decisions they have made.*
and then explains why, I believe he's entitled to his opinion, thou he could have worded it better.
@Laverna
I respect your opinion and it's one I share, but the best thing you can get out of this is experience.
yes rename this to spiral casino i absolutly agree with u;)
I hope that's not what he's actually trying to say.
Because blaming three rings for making you a gambling addict is like blaming food companies for making you fat.
There is an option to eat healthier food and live a healthier lifestyle but you CHOSE not to take it.
Blaming three rings for a gambling addiction is NOT right. They aren't advertising this game in such a way. They did not advertise UV's in that way, nor even a hint of it was advertised as being an addiction.
Take responsibility for your own actions don't put it on anyone else. When you can take responsibility for your actions suddenly you may find yourself living a better and more fulfilled life than you ever were before.
(btw. you is generic not directed at any one person in this thread.)
your crusade would be better led against an actual casino.
or a cigarette company.
or an alcohol company.
or a student loan company.
Sad to see you go, but an opinion of yours I disagree with:
Also because I witnessed some people, including myself, spending way too much money.
^ Thats not Three Rings fault its the gamers fault. I spend a bit in this game, and I have to admit I rarely blame Three Rings only because its our fault for wanting items that we don't need at all. Its our fault not having any self-control and rolling or buying away boxes to get a certain item we desire. Now, you can argue Three Rings put a "casino" into the game, but one can always argue that to no-life at the casino you have to just keep on spending Ce, and if you really just wanted to spend X amount on a monthly basis you can always have Three Rings Higher or Lower your amount of spending. My spending amount rarely gets to the max limit, but it has in occasion....One time they stopped me completly and told me I have 50 bucks left use it before I spend more. I don't think Three Rings is at all to blame of people spending away so much money in this game its more the players since they feel like they need that Vh Ctr sword etc.
My position with the accessories --- All accessories don't have the same drop rate if that were true I would have at least one of each color by now. I did over 30+ attempts and still don't have one of each color, so I am certain the drop rate of sexy items are so low that it is near impossible to receive them.
Well anyways good-bye and have fun in-real-life =).
