Accessories were a good idea at first. Many five star knights look the same, and accessories would make them look unique. But the accessory system was badly planned. First, the lockboxes are extremely hard to obtain. You have to play for ages and be very lucky to get a lockbox, or pay an 10k at the AH. So lets say you have a lockbox. Hooray! But then comes the key, costing 750 CE! Then you somehow obtain both, either by paying real money or being five stars and having nothing to do. Then the accessory could be something really lame that you would never put on unless forced at gunpoint. There at least need to be a preview button for the boxes. People may argue that then that ruins the fun of opening one. But still, no one can argue that only a few accessories are any good. Please improve this Three Rings. Also, better accessories everyone! The ones you have now are not so cool. Everyone loves the techno night goggle things though. And the glasses.. And the cat ears.... But some of them no one wants. Like the maid-headband thingy. No one wants it.
Accessories and how to improve them
Adding a sneak peak into the box causes too many problems, and would effectively kill the market on more common ones since people will just cherry pick the rare ones, and massively drop the value of the rare ones that do show up.
Lowering the price of keys, or color coding the boxes based on rarity, with matching keys at a scaled price, would go a long way of at least making the lower tiered accessories being traded and sold like other items. At the moment, the key prices and the permanent nature of attachment makes it too risky to open the boxes, and somewhat difficult to resell due to expected return prices.
I can't really gauge the impact, but an idea I've been considering is if they changed the box opening into a 2 stage process. Opening a lockbox would give a second box that defines 1 property of the accessory inside of it. For example, Helm box (or Armor box) contains a random item that attaches to that armor piece with any possible type or style. Gold boxes contain any possible accessory type but has a rare style. Defined accessory type, but has a high chance of a common style and low chance of rare style. This kind of box type is more conductive to traders and chance takers alike since it clearly defines 1 aspect of the item, allowing it fit within the current pricing scheme players are using, but letting players transfer some of the risk with the assumption of a reduced price for the box. With the overall risk slightly reduced this way, players will be more likely to open lockboxes knowing that have improved odds of selling the 2nd box, even if it isn't super rare.
The established prices of common types and styles will likely drop a bit since more people will favor boxes when possible, but money will continually change hands, and the common accessories will be generally more affordable to the public.
List of lame accessories include. Barrel belly. Auras because you cannot see them. Game face. Headband. GET rid of these. Please. I beg of you. People only equip them because they went to all the trouble. Once you have gone to all the trouble they always equip them. Well, i dont LIKE barrel belly but I went to all the trouble, and if I sell it at the AH it will sell for only a fraction of the price that I sold it for. So i should put it on.... The fateful words.
