Is this utterly mad, and/or brilliant?

Is that a yes-no question, and/or either-or? Is THAT question... er, let's not go there.

Anyway, Merethif just gave me a horrible idea (accidentally, so don't get mad at Merethif!) by asking a question (http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/28181#comment-16737) and I'm asking for other people's opinions on it.

Anyway, I think it would be ridiculously fun to have a big, slow gun with minimal area effect and huge self-knockback, kinda like the Magnus line I guess, so you can only slowly attack one target, but with super-puny split damage, no target stagger or knockback, and with maximum chance to inflict strong Sleep on target AND fair chance of Stun and Poison on self (no chance of Stun or Poison on target!) with all attacks- first, second, and charge. It would not be underpowered, though, and in fact be very, very popular, because of one other feature: moderate chance to inflict Curse on target with those attacks, and no backfire like Faust and FoV.

I agree with Effrul

... This gun sounds like a piece of JUNK dude.

for one its big and SLOW!!!!- when we fire it, it throws the user around like a ragdoll, AND you can fire on only one enemy at a time...
How... In the world... can we use something...so...INCONVENIENT?!?!?!?

maybe if the idea is tweeked so that the Gun Inflicts a terrifying amount of damage with those maximum chances of causing negative effects and a average area effect of a firecracker then maybe the gun won't sound so useless.

But right now...it feels like a punch gun, Which might I remind you is a NO STAR weapon???

duh

does anyone sees the contradiction?

it starts off saying
"with maximum chance to inflict strong Sleep on target AND fair chance of Stun and Poison on self"

and end with
"moderate chance to inflict Curse on target with those attacks, and no backfire like Faust and FoV."

Utterly mad.

Juances, I think they just meant no curse backfire.

Also, yes, this is a horrible idea. Sorry, Birgus. : /

My general rule is, if there

My general rule is, if there is an obvious interpretation of what some one says which makes sense, I will favour it over any interpretation that does not. Thanks again for suggesting that heat conversion idea, BTW.

Oh, wow. I was really afraid every one would say it's overpowered rather than underpowered, so I guess I was overcompensating. Curse inflicts terrifying damage against the most monstrous monsters, and the way it does so is very fun IMO. I broke a Curse vial on some Nydus-warping Alpha Ash Tails leaking into T2, and was amazed by how quickly they killed themselves. I knew Curse was considered the most powerful status effect, but I was expecting it to take them down to low health, not for them to viciously bite themselves to death! Still, it was incredibly satisfying to give them a taste of their own medicine after being frustrated by how hard they bite _me_ to death. Now that I think of it, Beasts and Constructs are probably a poor representation since other monsters are usually resistant to the damage types they dish out. Maybe that's why I overreacted, so I'll have to try to test some Curse vials on other monsters.

So, what do you guys think _would_ be reasonable for a gun that reliably inflicts Curse with no chance to put Curse, Fire, Shock or Freeze on the user? There are some particular properties I'm interested in, to feel very distinct from Faust, within the bounds of which I'd like to know what stats and other costs you think would be reasonable for a 3- to 5-star line:

* no unavoidable self-damage (Fire & Shock) like you get when you charge Fang of Vog; anything else goes
* slow, precise and methodical rather than spammy; more like Magnus than Blitz Needle
* negligible base damage in exchange for reliable Curse; like vapouriser bombs, but in a small space and time rather than a huge long-lasting cloud
* NOT synergising especially well with Divine Veil/Mantle, since Faust already does (more reason for no self-Fire/Shock/Curse)

How about a Magnus-type with reliable target Curse, offset by reliable self-Poison and status-bomb-level damage sound? Would that still be very underpowered, or would it be really overpowered now? If neither, that's basically my ideal big-target weapon; slow, methodical and demanding cautious use but devastating, reliable and useable from a safe distance if handled properly. ...and Curse-flavoured, because I like the big red eye-con and taunting monsters into self-damaging. I'd think bosses should probably have a special exceptional immunity to it, but since Faust is not considered grossly overpowered I'm doubting my judgement there too.

lol. 4 words.

We. Need. A. Shotgun.

maybe something with a 5 bullet spread, all fired at same time. it spreads out eventually, and all 5 bullets deal 1/3 of norm gun dmg
