Will I legitimately make more crowns with a 4 player party than if I go solo? How much more?

Actually, there might be a slight bonus to crowns and heat if you go in a group, but I am not sure what that bonus would be.
In any case, adventuring in a group is easier and more fun--you should certainly give it a shot.

The argument here would be you will probably die less, and if you die you can be revived at no energy cost, and go further down in a group than solo. If you can Solo your way through a whole teir though, I'd say go for it, you'll make slightly more just as Tuuc said, because you wont share any materials.
You will get approximately the same amount of crowns and heat as you will solo, because all crowns and heat collected are given, in their entirety, to everyone in the party. Energy doors have to be paid only by one member of the group and all crystals are shared as well, effectively giving you four times more of those. Joining a party might or might not, depending on your playstyle, increase your chances of survival, reducing revival costs.
However, if you're at all into selling materials, go solo. You will get four times more materials, which, for a solo runner like me, are without a doubt the main income. If some opponents prove to be too tough when soloing, take one friend with you.
