If you guys cannot fix the issue with game not loading on MacBooks you need to undo the patch so that everyone can play.
FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then re-release it. That is what companies do when they put out a defective product. They recall it, and FIX IT.
Time to step up OOO and undo the damage
Preeeeeeetty sure it's close to (if not entirely) after hours for most companies. However, OOO is usually on top of these kinds of things, I'd expect a patch fixing this tomorrow sometime. Hopefully early, as me and my friends had to stop one of our best vana runs just short of vana today because of the patch, and it'd really SUCK to have it happen twice. Oh, and hopefully early so you guys on macs can play as well.
As for redacting an update, I think that would be a bigger ordeal than waiting for a patch, as they'd need to update the servers to the previous version and then have everyone unpatch, and then repatch the next day with the fix. I think there's prolly a bigger chance of something going wrong there than anything really, but that could just be me...
A month after bomberman PvP was released it still froze everytime you played it on a Mac.
@ Madadder--i disagree. Until they say, "mac users we can't accept ur money" the onus is on them to not release broken patches. It's not that tough. Have a Mac in house. Test the patch. If it breaks the game on mac you CANNOT release it as is. Seriously. That's the beginning, middle, and end to the problem.
Filed support ticket:
Me: I'm playing on a MacBook pro and after the latest patch when i click my desktop shortcut or try to launch thru the play button on the website the game will not load. It doesn't load and lock up or anything like that. The patch has been downloaded already. If i open thru desktop shortcut nothing happens. If i open thru this website it says launch 100% complete but nothing happens. Is this a known issue?
Do we know when it will be fixed?
I'm in the midst of a LOT of in game business transactions and cannot afford to not be able to log in and manage them. It is gonna cost me a ton of ce/crowns if this continues.
OOO response: Try re-installing Spiral Knights on your MacBook and let us know if it works again (or not)!
***
No, no, and no. It is not OUR job to test fixes for THIER broken patch. This is unacceptable. The proper response is for them to test reinstalling it on a MacBook and then them telling US if it fixes the issue. Unbelievable.
is acknowledge that they are aware of the issue and working on it. (at least they did that with the bomberman stuff) But just being mysteriously quiet about the issue publicly and privately (in the support ticket pawn posted) suggesting that it is the player's job to find a work-around is the reason that mac users are unsatisified.
and again, for everyone with a pc who comes in to say "you should have a PC not a mac," this is completely unhelpful and just a jerky move. Those of us who have macs have macs. And thus it is a problem that the game is not working on our macs. I don't have a few extra thousands of dollars to go buy a new PC to play spiral knights.

lolwut. Let's cut down on the exaggerations; I'm not saying your distaste is unjustified, but let's be rational.

If you want to play so badly you can at least try it. You are being so ridiculous. I didn't see this much butthurt when many Steam players couldn't play the game, but it's from a Mac user so I am hardly surprised. At least this is a problem that can be fixed by OOO themselves.
Wow you're flipping out. What if this problem isn't on all macs, just some of them, who of course were the most vocal about it? What IF it's a problem caused by the patch that jumbled code as an unfortunate side-effect, and reinstalling would unjumble it? You cannot honestly expect them to test everything on every system with every setting ever.
And if that isn't the case, now you're just being stubborn. Refusing to reinstall when you have supposedly so much at stake simply on a flawed principle? Either you really don't have that much at stake, or your values in a virtual game outweigh your consequences in the game. And what if it did work on their Mac? They might not have the same type of settings as your macbook, and thus you actually taking the effort into fixing the problem in the way they told you to and giving feedback could easily speed up the process. It's how the system works.
If I flipped out every time one of my games updated and broke on my computer, I'd be banned from the majority of them.
And once again, it's after hours, there's probably no one there that can seriously help with the problem. The only thing you can do is express your problem (a bit more politely than you did) and wait for them to address it when they can.
Oh, and by the way, while I do agree that PC's make for better gaming then Macs, telling a Mac user to get a Pc to fix their problem is a ridiculous response. I want to use garageband, but I'm not gonna spend and obscene amount of money for it, nor are they gonna spend an equally obscene amount of money for easier playing on SK.
didn't work. But it doesn't change my point, and yes i need to quit giving my opinions of this before i get banned. It's just frustrating. I mean, bomberman pvp didn't work for at least a month after release (haven't tried it since).
@ Dirt, thanks for the tired, lame, played out, unintelligent "Butthurt" internet meme. Good job. You should come back with 'u mad bro', and throw in a 'Learn2play' while ur at it.
Have you tried updating Java as well? Were you at OOO Headquarters when they said "Man, forget testing this on Macs... just push it out. It will be fine!"
I have a Mac and always run this game on my apple devices (I have a crap load of them) and none of them have problems. Three rings will fix this problem shortly they usually do it asap. Making topics like this is a waste of your time and their time since they already have been told plenty of times a bug occurred with the current patch. Did you update all your java and your macbook is fully updated as well look into that as well since that can easily be a cause of the problem.
I doubt very much that Three Rings is unsympathetic to Mac OS concerns. If you have a full size Apple keyboard you might notice that the F5 and F6 keys do not correspond to monitor brightness or volume controls or anything. Interestingly, those same two keys open the social and recipe lists in Spiral Knights.
I don't think it is a coincidence.
@Pawn
It's nearly impossible for OOO to test on all possible configurations and computers. Not everything will be forseeable, and MANY times it will be a problem on the user's end. The platform that they test the game on is a controlled environment- and when the game is released out, many things can happen.
Were you there when a patch screwed up Crystal Energy Spending? That was complete havoc, and the market was flooded with Slot Upgrades. Things that the Dev's don't intend to happen DO happen. And they've got people yelling at them to fix bugs, add content, change mechanics. What do they focus on first? What's best for the game?
I assume that the Dev's *are* aware of this bug, and if not, they'll be aware tomorrow, and during standard work hours, try to fix it. What time is it on the West Coast? It was about 9 PM when you started ranting. Don't most places work from 9AM to 5PM? You know, standard working hours? The thread in the bug reports popped up around 5PM, close to when everyone's packing up and getting ready to head home. This happens, and it's fair enough.
The response you got from support is a standard one. They're walking you though troubleshooting- basic stuff. You don't need to get angry about it, just tell them you've already tried that and keep going until it fixes the problem or you get a response you're happy with. Give them specific info about your problem, such as system specs. Help them fix the problem- yelling at them won't get you anywhere.
I'd hate to see how'd you react if you played Dead Island for the computer! For Dead Island, they launched a patch that bricked the game for *everyone.* Rendered it completely unplayable. Took them over a half day to reverse that patch. Lucky they launched that patch midday, or they wouldn't have been able to reverse it. In the meantime? I just played another game. I knew they'd fix it, they just needed some time.
But still unhappy with this situation? Fine, answer with your wallet, and refuse to buy CE until you get the treatment you want. Still unhappy? Well, you don't *have* to play the game.
Making yourself heard is very important, yes. Without that, the Devs wouldn't be aware of the bug to be fixed! However, speaking in a way that makes you look like you know what you're talking about and makes you look like you're rational is much better, and much more likely to be listened to!
Yes i was/am angry about it. Please try and see my point of view. I have many in-game 'business' deals in process right now (accessory driven markets). And consequently this bug has cost me around 5k ce and counting.
Furthermore, i really don't like to be flaky at other peoples expense. I have people holding items for me til tonight, and some for tomorrow, and etc. Everyone that was patiently doing me the favor of holding items for now is suffering as a result. On one hand i'm sure they will understand it is out of my control, on the other it has the potential to greatly effect the way i'm able to conduct business in future trades.
Also, there was several rare items on the AH that i desperately wanted to complete various sets of gear or costumes. Some of them are already gone, and some will be gone soon. So my complaints about the buggy patch is not based on, 'i cannot kill mobs in clockworks' (although i was looking forward to doing that tonight as well), but more focused on the fact that it is costing me a ton of ce in opportunity costs.
BTW, the devs work from home. Not saying the should work a 15 hour day, but just wanted to point that out because i thought it was interesting. Actually, i think the simplest, best fix would be to simply recall the patch so everyone can play, fix it, then re-release it.
P.S. i'm particularly concerned because last time a mac incompatibility came along it was bomb PvP, and it was broken for at least a month. I don't know how long or if it has even been fixed yet, since i gave up on it after a month :(
Hi! Just to clarify - the devs work in our central San Francisco office. Game masters work from home (or from coffee shops, or in an airport on several occasions ;) ). We're definitely aware that a group of Mac users are experiencing issues, and the devs will be continuing to look into it once they wake up.
Seeing this post makes me hope they never fix the mac problem.
Not all mac users are like this, don't be stereotyping. hah
i agree that pawn is over reacting (even though the EXACT same thing happened to me) just chill out a LITTLE bit...
yea im a mac user listen to skaiwalka
I'm surprised he makes such long rants without, you know, posting his system/Java info so people could help identify this problem. I don't think any game company is expected to fix the problem without KNOWING WHAT THE PROBLEM IS.
You think you're the only person who had deals going on? It's only been half a day, too... Steam on PC had tons of issues earlier, and I know I personally caused several friends to disable game notifications on Steam because I was repeatedly loading the client. That took at least half a week to fix, and this was during the Rose Regalia Redux event, when I was trading a few hundred thousand. But that's not the issue here...
Some people feel they are entitled to everything in the world...
Pawn, you need to take a chill pill man.
I'm sure they're working on it as we speak, go pick up a hobby in the mean time. I think you can live without SK for a day.
OOO will have a fix up when they're able, it's not exactly an easy process I imagine, it will take them some time.
Its clearly peanut-butter jelly time you need to check your clock again =)
you need to just chill out and wait or if you dont wanna wait for these things to get settled GO BUY A PC they have more compatibility better for games and a lot more custimation so either shell out some money on a pc oh and 1 more thing GET A LIFE!!!!
Go build a program that never has a single bug, error or crash. Then come back and you can complain.
Otherwise... chill...
im just going to throw this out there...
in the future u may want to consider a PC instead of a Mac because of situations just like this (they happen a lot)
