Hello,
I have an ancient computer and that is not rare. You see, a great number of people don't meet the system requirements to play a game and yet they play them. This is the thing with me, some of my friends and who knows how much people. When i press ''Esc'' I can change the graphics quality, but believe it or not, changing it from High to Low didn't show difference of any kind. There was still the ''picture scrolling'' when a lot of monsters appear and the details in the game didn't change alot either. So, I'm asking You to make the graphic settings more drastic or to make an ultra low graphics settings so computers with like 1.18 GHz can play it, I assure it would greatly increse the population of the game. I'm not so familliar with this subject so excuse me if I wrote something wrong, but you get the point. Please consider this suggestion.

Regards, Mishiless

I'm OVER the systems

I'm OVER the systems requirements and I still can't play on the lowest graphical settings possible. Seriously, 2.00 GHz an 2 GB RAM should allow me to play this game. Instead, it sucks up 100% of my CPU power and gives me a lag fest.

GHz is not a terrific

GHz is not a terrific indicator of equipment quality; things like OS optimization, Java updates and your graphics card can have a greater impact on how well the game runs on your computer.

Most big-label computer games run on DirectX, but SK is Java-based...and some graphics cards do not have a great track record with Java. When you change the in-game graphics settings, that does not change the problems you might be having with your graphics card.

Is there anything else you can tell me about your situation? I am not sure what your specific complaint about the game is.

System

Well, I run Windows 7, am sure I fully updated Java, and I'm not sure how to figure out what my graphics card is, but I think it might be a mobile intel® 4 series express chipset family. Playing SK causes my CPU usage to jump up to 100% and it uses up 600,000 K Memory (Private Working Set).

Using ~600MB of memory is

Using ~600MB of memory is nothing odd on a fully fledged 3D game. For figuring out the details of your graphics card refer to the Technical Help Sticky.

For future reference, you can

For future reference, you can find your graphics card by typing "dxdiag" in the run command; specific instructions are here: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Technical_issues_FAQ

If your graphics card drivers are more than a year or two old, that might be part of your problem. Note that your graphics card needs to have 3D acceleration capacity; older cards do not have this. The FAQ has a short list of integrated/video cards that might work. Please read through the "What if my computer system barely meets the minimum requirements?" section.

Thanks, I already know about

Thanks, I already know about dxdiag, but I didn't know what which one (driver, device, etc.) I needed.

I'm updating my drivers now, I didn't even know I could update them (I figured they updated automatically; I'm new to this software/hardware stuff).

Also, thanks for that Technical Issues FAQ, I couldn't find it when I looked for it.

UPDATE: Well, it's not better. Maybe my graphics card just won't support it. Oh well, I'll keep tinkering.

It's because they were dumb

It's because they were dumb turds and re-allowed those flashy graphics to appear on the low setting (snow, fog, etc.)
It was perfectly fine before, but now... Everytime I encounter a level with snowing and/or fog, I lag on the lowest setting :( When I don't encounter it, I switch to the high setting, and no lag at all for me...

We need more advanced options for whomevers sake.

I third Darth's statement.

I third Darth's statement. The game heavily lags (Not to mention increased loading times) when there's Fog or stupid, unnecessary background effects like Lightning, which most of the time you won't be seeing AT ALL, as they appear in Lichenous Lair and Power Passage.
The game runs awesome even in my horribly old and chunky PC, yet when these effects come into play I am prone to freezes and teleports of my character as I have no means of turning them off.

Please, at least give the option of turning fog/background off, that's all it would require to make the game run 150% faster. ._.

I'd like to second the option

I'd like to second the option of disabling fog and other effects. I find the game runs fairly smoothly until I find an area with a lot of fog.
