FSC hat dilemma

I'm trying to pick a better hat for there to go with my Armor of the Fallen :)

I'm not quite sure which damage is which type in there, so maybe one of you can help me out? These are my issues in the dungeons:

FSC
- Zombie attacks.

Vanaduke
- Ceiling dropping.
- Sometimes running into fire when he's blocking my view, but that kills me anyways

Hat Options:
- Deadshot Chapeau, especially with the new curse UFSC thing coming out.
- Dread Skelly Helm (w/ fire UV med+).
- Volcanic Demo Helm.
- Volcanic Plate Helm.
- Volcanic Salamander Mask.

I usually use a sword & gun... sword 1/2 the time in FSC, and 100% gun in Vanaduke.

Rejected the Crown of the Fallen & Vog Cub Hat - I have max sword ASI.

And a newbie question, does "elemental" damage protection reduce fire damage?

some answers

Depths 24-27 are packed with undead and fiends, which do a lot of shadow damage. There's probably some normal damage in those attacks, too. So on these levels you want normal, shadow, and fire protection.

Depth 28 has Vanaduke (normal damage mainly?) and Slag Guards (elemental damage mainly?). So on this level you want normal, elemental, and fire protection. It seems that a lot of people optimize their armor for Depth 28, rather than Depths 24-27, because Depth 28 is harder.

No, elemental armor does not reduce the damage from fire. Only fire-resistant armor does.

What is the "new curse UFSC" thing?

^ UFSC = Ultimate. The zombies spit curse instead of fire. It's what's been going on in the test server.

Depends on what weapons and UVs you have.

But your definitely goin to need some elemental defense.

Will post more after UVs/Weps listed.

Zombies in FSC/UFSC are half

Zombies in FSC/UFSC are half Normal/Shadow with a Fire status. (Then in UFSC the zombie breath is curse.) The only way to minimize your damage from them is to wear Normal/Shadow on both the helm and armor.

If you do catch on fire, the only thing that'll reduce your damage taken is fire resistance. Fire damage is actually "normal" since the ticks that fall off you are red and black, but normal armor doesn't reduce the damage by a measurable amount (if any) in any case.

Duke's mace, trojans and falling ceiling will hit you for Normal damage, making a Normal component on the helm useful. But his mask phase and the fire floor is pure elemental so going full Normal/Shadow is going to leave you very vulnerable to those things. A good elemental shield can help with the mask... but there isn't a whole lot any of us can do about the floor being on fire.

OOO seems to have purposely left out the perfect Normal/Shadow/Fire set with Fallen's two penalties... so your best bet is probably to do Deadshot for the Normal/Shadow defense and to offset Fallen's negative curse. If you can get a Fire UV on either, that'll help you too. Without any Elemental defense you are going to take a lot of damage in the mask phases if you get hit, but that is the tradeoff.

I tried Deashot in UFSC, but I didn't really feel the extra shadow defense was necessary for me... I'm a bomber in FSC so usually stay well out of the way of zombie's reach. Someone partaking in melee might feel otherwise. In the end I just switched to my usual Volc Helm/Vog Cub and fared well.

So, is it right to say that

So, is it right to say that Zombies are the only source of Shadow Damage in all FSC?

Hmm

Yep, Zombies are the only source of Shadow in FSC. UFSC is a bit different though, have to wait to see what they end up releasing.

Pretty much. There's some only mild piercing with oilers/wolvers on some levels and the zombies are the only source of shadow damage I can recall. Avoiding damage from zombies is relatively easy compared to most enemies and gear matters a lot more on Vanaduke than the rest of FSC. That's part of why Vog is so much more popular than Fallen for FSC, even though Fallen seems custom built for the place. (Although perhaps not for UFSC)

If you don't want to wear Vog Cub as your helm, I'd personally recommend Volcanic Demo. Shivermist is an incredible piece of equipment for Vanaduke and it's pretty damn good for the rest of FSC too, so having some CTR reduction on a Shiver will make you a very nice addition to any party.

Thanks. I was using Vog Coat

Thanks. I was using Vog Coat + Divine Veil (with 2 Normal UV Medium), but I think I'll switch to a Volcanic Plate Helm. (I have a Hail Driver, not a Shivermist.... and oh, I already got a 2* Plate Helm with Fire:Medium and all the recipes lol)

Taking off the Divine Veil

Taking off the Divine Veil will make a difference. Zombie damage in FSC is split between shadow and normal, so even by equipping something with no shadow protection like Volcanic Demo you won't be taking any more damage from zombies than you already were. And that'll help for vanaduke since he does no shadow.

Slag Guards?

"Yep, Zombies are the only source of Shadow in FSC."

Are you guys sure of this? I could swear that Slag Guards also deal a split of normal and shadow. I know that purple lines appear for shadow damage before they charge, and that my Dread Skelly Shield can take several hits from them before breaking. It seems like a bug if they don't actually do shadow damage, since their attack indicator shows that they should.
