I'm debating between Polaris and Shivermist Buster for my fourth all-around (as in not boss stratum) gunner set. Right now I have:

Nameless Poncho/Hat

Quickstrike Buckler

Elite Trueshot Module (×2)

Nova Driver
Callahan
Biohazard

Polaris can save teammates from otherwise certain death, stop turrets from shooting, and push back waves when I (or the whole team) would otherwise be overwhelmed, but Shivermist goes very nicely with the Nova ricochets, often allowing two or three full clips before the mobs unfreeze.

Thoughts?

Those pesky Devilites.

I would replace Nova Driver with Polaris and get Shiver. You don't really need two elemental guns: Polaris' charge is way better when attacking frozen enemies. I would also replace your Swiftstrike with Grey Owlite Shield, VPS or Crest of Almire.
The rest of your stuff are pro though ;)

Polaris is worse than Nova

Polaris is worse than Nova driver in almost all situations, so I will not be replacing it.

As for the shield, I don't need an actual shield except against Vanaduke (which I hope will change soon).

I would say there are too many situations that Polaris outclasses Nova (With shock, three shots, knockback, explosions, only a few of the millions of good qualities of Polaris), but it's all up to you, it was just my opinion.

The shields I recommended are also good for Vanaduke.

I can see the allure of having a shiver for mob control, but I like the neutral sword for taking out single targets, or the charge attack (i have a good ctr on it).

Just a thought.
Maybe i'll do a run with shiver to see how it is...

I don't have a nova, but I like the polaris. Different people, different flavours....

For vana, the shiver will be useful if you don't get a BN since it makes him a ton easier.

I was ready to suggest a Levi, but since you're not contempt to carry a sword, shivermist buster is the way to go. It will be more useful than the polaris.

Im an avid slinger and even at that I use my hail driver in a group rather than my asi med Gigga

Would you consider using deadshot + nameless for fsc?

I personally enjoy using a polaris with max damage vs undead in FSC.

2 week ago i though too that Polaris is way better than Nova - but Polaris deals much less damage due pushing everything away while Nova deals excellent damage with the recouchée ... WAAA I HATE THIS WORD!! you know what i mean T_T''

How ever for me I use different guns anyway, sometimes this, sometimes that, sometimes 2 ele, 2 pierce, 2 shadow ... I mean for example one pierce is enough for a jelly level, but I'll take 2 against grems and beasts.

As Standard I recommend:

Callahan / Blitz Needle (I fav. Blitz due the useless of T3 Callahan)
Polaris / Alchemer (I fav. Alchemer due the better damage and accuracy against mewcats and co.)
Biohazard / Alchemer (I fav. ... both :D doesnt matter - its fun+poison against dmg)
Shivermist / Voltaic / Polaris / Alchemer (Shivermist at FSC, Voltaic at Arena Levels (Shivermist sux at arena due the last wave they will surround you if they're not following you), Polaris for Levels with many turrets or Fire Arena with probably Rocket towers X.x, Alchemer if you've chosen Polaris at Slot 2.)

I've thought about making Deadshot, but one, it reduces my mobility against Vana, and two, I don't have the funds for it right now (building a bomber alt).

shivermist is probably the

shivermist is probably the best choice, but solo, you might also consider a flourish.
a flourish gives you something to push your way out of a corner, a way to cut grass efficiently and pretty much invalidates greavers.
