Game redownloads everytime I open it

I did a search, and ran across people posting "it shouldn't do that," but no solutions.

Every time I start the game, it redownloads. Just now, I sat through the ~45 minute download (killing time until it finished), then realized I hadn't plugged in my gamepad, so I had to kill it and bring it back up. When I killed it, I was in a level. Well... now it's downloading again. The log states it couldn't find version.txt, so it's going to download the entire thing. Sure enough, version.txt isn't there.

Is that the problem?

(This is the client version. The web installer wouldn't even start.)

Have you tried uninstalling

Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the client? When a file is missing, that is the first thing you should try.

Depending on what part of the world you live in, and when you are accessing the game, there might just be a lot of traffic on the servers.
