First off just a quick observation: bonus's aside, Faust and Avenger do comparative damage yet the Faust series is much faster. Is there some sort of Avenger advantage that I am missing? Just having a little bit of buyers remorse.
Avenger v. Faust opinions
Faust has faster speed, but a greatly inferior charge attack. Faust's charge attack isn't great on it's own, and it can also curse yourself. Avenger's charge is possibly the best in the game.
Get both. 8D
If not, Avenger is a bit more well rounded it seems. It depends on what other weapons you are planning to use. If you already have something that can take care of fiends and undead easy then go Faust. If not, then go with Avenger because you will not have much fun on those random Graveyard levels while using Faust.
Also if you like Jelly king farming, Faust would be super useful for that as well.
Avenger is better for Firestorm Citadel.
That's quite important imo.
Having tried both, myself and another player found faust to not be noticeably faster than the avenger.
I'm not quite sure if it's due to some sort of speed ceiling being hit in conjunction of the vog cub bonus or due simply because the item is bugged but having initially chosen to go for the gran faust for what i thought was a significantly superior speed, I feel a bit cheated that the avenger's one-hit is just as fast as the faust's and that the faust's second swing is just as slow to recover as the avenger's.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong somehow but as of now, the divine avenger is the more all-around useful blade imho and as others have mentioned, it's viable in end-game. The gran faust, on the other hand, is mostly useful on deconstruction levels and jelly king runs where mobs are weak to its damage type.
Alright, thanks for killing off my buyers remorse. Guess Ill sell that faust recipe I just bought.
Bumping with some of my thoughts.
Faust hits harder and faster, correct? Even if it doesn't, generally other than damage type (Shadow vs elemental) the Avenger's draw is supposed to be the superior charge attack.
Some issues with this are the vulnerable nature of charge attacks and how finicky the hitboxes are. From some ranges and angles (Point blank for instance) on some monster, the charge projectile doesn't even make contact. Also, if it catches a wall or destructible block, even by a pixel or by a degree of space that doesn't even seem to make contact to the user, the projectile diminishes without moving anywhere and sometimes without doing any damage.
There are a few other complaints I have about the Divine Avenger as well but overall it's an ok weapon I guess. Just not sure it's actually equal to the Gran Faust in terms of potency. The elemental damage does help, though, since it's effective in Firestorm Citadel.
@TrapCardFool
The faust path is supposed to be faster. Look at the amount of speed bars compared to the avenger.
Having used both, I can safely say that I now have a Gran Faust and i'm working on making my Avenger a Divine Avenger. They're both very good weapons and compliment each other nicely.
"The faust path is supposed to be faster. Look at the amount of speed bars compared to the avenger."
Except most bars in this game mean nothing in relation to other item bars. Many of them seem to actually have their own item-exclusive values, making the entire representation they grant wholly meaningless.
Essentially, the bars are just colorful pictures that don't have a concrete value behind them in contrast to other bars. Faust's swing speed is the same as Avenger's.
im going to work on getting both, myself, and to have a good piercing damage gun like blitz needle. i'll also have my dread vile striker for all the king jelly runs of course heh
im thinkin i'll get faust first then use it to farm jelly king and eventually get another sealed sword, and eventually an avenger. who knows when i'll actually be able to afford getting them both up to their 5* versions haha. i think it would be more important to complete vog cub before moving them along
Get both because they both have their uses.
If you want to get Sealed Sword fast, I suggest that you craft a Nightblade which deals shadow and should make your journey in RJP easier. But if you already got a Sealed Sword (and did not have a Nightblade), craft it into a Faust to help you in RJP to get another Sealed Sword. If you already got a Nightblade, craft the Sealed Sword into a Avenger first as a Faust will be pretty pointless.
Why did you bump two old threads, this one being exceptionally old, to say the exact same thing in both of them?
Divine Avenger has a generally more useful charge attack, and Elemental.
