ok, so here I am bidding for iron gears, scrap metal, and blue shards; an honest merchanty living to forge for cobalt armor to get that one UV just for me and sell out the junk and junkish UV for money using only mist. Then for one iron gear I see I am outbid to 200 cr. Not strange at first, so I take a gut feeling on this one and say to myself, ok OUTBID THIS! I put up 1k cr. So, logically someone would stop there, right? NO! The crazy guy on the other side competing for this iron gear worth only .1k outbids me. So I make a second ballzy move and outbid him to 2k cr. I regretted this for all of about 5 min, THEN YA KNOW WHAT? THE DUMBARSE/BOT (not sure yet) OUTBIDS ME AGAIN! This occurred about at 2 a.m; I then decided to conclude about 3 different possibilities for this enigma: 1) This guy thinks I am a bot and tried testing me. 2) He did it for kicks I guess? 3) Maybe a bot. This is the page that has bot stuff for this game AKA 'not hacks' ([No, let's not link to the bot site]).
I suspect a bot; anyone wanna fill me in on this?
Someone was outbidding you for fun. Don't take it too seriously.
This is due to bot scare on my part. Due to team fortress 2 and some arse named 'Rideguy' who made a script that gives bot ping in tf2. I am one of those who gets really apprehensive due to that. Even if I get fooled by the illusion that I am supposedly playing against real people, there is an underlying unsatisfaction that tells me after awhile (that and noone responds to my chat) that I am in fact playing against bots. Personally, I think that valve needs to put into contract that anyone who alters script without their permission gets legal action taken against them. I am annoyed by this just that much. Made a thread in dedication of that annoyance (http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/29717).
Bots will exist regardless. Developer plugs hole, bot stops working, bot maker upgrades bot, bot works again, Developers plug hole.... etc, etc. But ultimately what matters is if the bot is somehow useful or not to where it draws attention.
Also, software license agreements are already a sticky issue to begin with, and law suits in the end are not the answer. The MPAA tried every combination of lawsuit they could find, and it still hasn't "stopped piracy", while completely [screwing] things up for the rest of us. A VAC ban or account suspension is pretty powerful, up front, and criminally difficult to get reversed. Keeping honest people honest.
I know what you mean. I'll hit the "bid" button, and I get a message "you need to bid 200 cr more than that". It's not lag though, becuase if I reload the game, the price dosen't go up, it's only if I hit bid. Obviously I jack the price up when that happens though.
You have to increase a bid by a certain % over the current amount to take it. Since it doesn't refresh the current bids in real time, you have to switch AH tabs so it refreshes when you switch back.
Also some people *cough* might at times hit the button twice with 2-3 Seconds delay only, overbidding themselves, to make it seem to the other bidder like there are multiple people "fighting" over the item already in the hope that he'll give up ^^
I logged in just now to a message that says i am not allowed to link to any bot sites; can't remember all of what it says, but apparently I am being advised to only report bots and bugs to GMs, or something. Also, apologized on the previous thread, but will do so here to about putting up a link to a bot site. Didn't know it was against any terms or anything. I also failed horribly to find the rules on the forums; I am not real savvy about forum usage, so finding the sticky on the rules was something I couldn't find on the front page of the forums. I know better how to find rules to these things though, so, no more of that. Also, do I need to remove the removed link (don't know if there is any point)?
Forums rules are usually the first 1 or 2 sticky threads at the top of every sub-board. Standard practice.
That's entirely normal. Could have been:
- Someone who was angry that you kept outbidding him in a certain way (some p.E. think it's rude to waste their time by making small raises with big delays)
- Someone who wanted that heavy gear and didn't (a) care (b) bother (c) know how to find another one in the ah.
- Someone who was bored and possibly trying to make you spend more cr has lost against you playing "auction chicken" (try it some time, it's a fun minigame! xD)
- Someone who's really really very "competitive" and doesn't like to "loose" in any context has beaten you in his own little invisible universe where outbidding someone is defined as a victory and thus equals "being more awesome than a random person you never met".
- Someone spend some time looking after 100+ auctions he previously made an initial "marker bid" for and didn't bother to even read what the bid is for after that unless it's more than 3k or something.
Also you might want to remove your link before you get a "warning" or something.
