My friend is unable to play the game
A buddy of mine is unable to play the game. He signed up and downloaded the technical support thing to install to the pc. But all he gets is when he tries to boot it from the main page is a 100% Launch screen. Note he has the latest edition of Java, Windows Vista. If anyone is having the same problem and have solved it please contact me.
Does this happen when you launch the game from the desktop client? Are you sure your internet connection is stable?
Uninstall the game, and reinstall from this link: http://download.threerings.net/spiral/client/spiral-install.exe
Launch the game from the shortcut that appears on your desktop.
Please let me know what happens.
Ive installed the game and it went through an update process but all that happens now is ill click the shortcut for the game, it will show signs of loading for a moment but after which the window close then upon clicking the shortcut again but the cursor showed signs of loading for a moment, but no window appeared and after nothing else happened.
Are you certain that you have the most recent Java update?
The Technical support FAQ says that order of installation is very important.
You should have uninstalled SK from your control panel, updated Java, uninstalled old versions of Java (http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml), THEN reinstalled SK.
Is there anything else you can tell me about your problem? What OS is your computer running?
My computer is running windows xp, I did make sure to install the latest update to java before installing the game and even went back and uninstalled an and re installed both in the correct order the first time this issue occurred. My computer more than far surpasses the minimum requirements for the game and as i said before I followed the FAQ quite thoroughly even updating my video drivers, making sure my fire wall wasn't blocking anything related to java or the ports. The game simply seems to stop when its going to launch the game and proceeds no further.
Yeah, using Vista, updated Java, most recent drivers, more than enough hardware goodness to support it, and I get nothin' when I try to boot the game.
If I use the website, it stops at 100% loading and just stays there.
If I use the downloadable version it'll download some files the first time I run it, close itself, and then never open again.
I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, everything in the FAQ topic here, still nothing.
I'm able to run the game perfectly on my pc but it's my friend Daakun there that is having the problem. We have the same pc running the same programs plus we both have an updated version of Java. Its just his pc wont let him play it. It stays at the Launch at 100%. Even when he installs the shortcut its give him nothing...Daakun will explain
Just going out on a limb here, saw this in another thread, but has everyone tried changing their firewall settings as listed in the FAQ?
Also, Nick announced a major update, and the server should be back on in 45ish minutes--even if the patch (hopefully!) fixes things for you, could you report back on your situation? I'm really sorry that I and the others haven't been able to help you too much, but hang in there and this should get sorted out soon.
No the update didn't do anything for the issue, it went through downloading all the updates then went right back to sitting at the launching screen. I even opened the downloaded client, it opened for the first time to update itself then closed again and i was once again unable to have it do anything at all. To answer to the other recommendation I already did change my fire wall settings to not only unblock everything related to java but also unblock every port listed.
Tailithia, you unblocked Java and those ports (ONLY those ports listed in the FAQ) on ALL your firewall or antivirus software?
I gotta say, you really have me stumped. Did you contact SK through the support portal?
Yes, was requested to send a copy of my projectx.log file. Currently waiting for a response from that.
well after going back and forth with the in game help team i sent in my project.x log file as requested, the response 2 days later was a generic message telling me to go and check the technical questions FAQ. So yeah unfortunately at a loss here now.
If the help team didn't see anything wrong with your projectx.log it is probably something with your game set up. It could be something wrong with your Java version, your Windows updates, or it could be a new bug---but I'm really sorry I couldn't help you.
What kind of Windows update or Java version? A new bug would be bad T^T, cause then they would have to shut it down
Ginu214, I am assuming you were asking me?
The latest Java update is Java 6 Update 24. Sometimes updates do not install correctly, which is why we advise people to uninstall and then reinstall the most recent update directly from the Java website.
This issue only seems to be affecting a few people, so I do not think it will cause the game to be shut down.
I'll make sure to tell Daakun that. Idk if he went to the website and downloaded it directly from there yet but I'll make sure to tell him to give it a shot, cause he really has been itching to play this game and we've been scrolling down the forums everyday to find a solution. Hopefully Sega and 3 rings are reading this >.>
Mind sending me the website so i can give it to him?
Point your friend to the FAQ, which has all the appropriate links, plus other information he may find useful: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Technical_issues_FAQ#How_do_I_know_if_I_am...
Just thought I'd pop in here and say that this is happening to me as well. The game goes through the install properly, but the client only pops up for a second with a black screen before closing. I've gone through the FAQ process at least 8 times by now, so there's nothing in there that'll change the problem.
Also I'd like to note, posting the FAQ again isn't going to help anybody, especially if they've already said that they went through it. It's obnoxious for people that don't need it.
Not really sure why you found that obnoxious. He asked for a link to the Java website (which he could have found if he had done any kind of search on his own) and there is a link to Java...in the FAQ. He would have found that link if he had read the FAQ.
Sorry to hear that you're having this problem, but non-dev players like myself have a limited number of options when it comes to helping others--I suggest you contact Three Rings through the support portal, as you can see no solution to the problem was found in this thread.
Guys i just wanted to say that i have the exact same problem. I try to run with Firefox 4.0, java 6 last version 24 and windows 7 updated too. I don´t find any helpful answer on internet :(
This is an issue Ive also been experiencing while trying to start the game, I have followed the technical support FAQ thoroughly though this issue still persists, it simply sits after it is 100% complete saying it will be launching the game.
