Thats not a fair comparison when the Mann Co key has chest hair and a mustache.
Thats also not a fair comparison when TF2 doesn't have any official in-game currency to speak of.
Imagine a life without crowns and CE. People would be trading Shards as currency. And there would be some exchange rate between shards, but in the end the worth of everything will be measured in Green Shards.
manco key (2.50 dollar):
crates in all colors of the rainbow... (ok every crate has an ammount of stuff in it) so you can choose WHAT you like to gamble on (class specific items)
chance to get strange weapons (conselation prize but lot's of people love them including me and my strange medi/needlegun) normal hats and the chance of a rare unusual hat.
silver key 2.50 dollar aka 750CE):
1 crate (no difrence as far is i know) rare drop on it's own (but can now be bought at the AH for next to nothing) 35! difrent items (varrious rarity) 10 difrent colors... and now even a key that requires an other key and pure luck!

i wish the lockboxes would be more like the ones in TF2 (but then again i want a halo and wings so make it so it all has a fair chance to uncrate hehe)

Well, the Mann Co. Key is actually worth something. I can always just buy a 2.50 dollar key, uncrate a (let's say) $100 unusual and BAM profit. Then I could just uncrate a cheap hat that gives me some profit back, or some rare strange, or nothing at all.
The Silver Key (however) not only is it barely traded, but it hardly offers anything of real value in return. This are definitely overpriced. Unlike in TF2, these aren't a currency, and you can't expect a good item in return. I mean, the key itself would probably be worth more if you could get some seriously pricy items in a lockbox. But to be honest, not everyone can afford an accessory at the moment. A good deal of the populace is still trying to get the gear they want for a Vana run.
The Shadow Key... Not sure. I'll just wait and see in the update and THEN whine.
