This threads title says it all, and what I am suggesting is that for pure cosmetics and nothing else, that we can equip a weapon of a type and have a 2nd weapon of the same type equipped as a costume skin just like you can do with armor and helms. Its really a no brainer, should be easy as heck to implement and doesn't effect gameplay at all.

That we have the same ability ingame to equip say a gun like the Sentenza (which like many weapons IMO look too over the top) and then equip a different looking gun like say the Valiance Valiance to have a Sentenza look like a Valiance, same with swords and bombs, the effects of the main equipped weapon would be retained since the gun flare, charge attack graphics ect are just a particle effect, so it would be a simple model swap while the original effects and stats are kept.

And so it isn't anything game breaking, but it would be an easy to implement side feature that would help this games great current customization a lot more.

And both myself and everyone else here can tell you half the equipment we use, we use cause of the stats, but they visually look horrible and out of place on our characters, and in a few cases the lower star more mundane designs of weapons and shields look a lot better then the higher star equivalents for eg.

And for balance in PVP (if it needs to be an issue)...and if it does come back then when you enter a PVP arena all equipped weapon and shield costumes are disabled temporarily till yo have left the arena.

PvP

PvP used to strip you of your costumes, while only Ultimate Brawl (which had a 5000cr entry fee before the weekend finale) allowed you to have costumes.

It would be funny to see somebody swinging a Khorovod around as if it were like part of the cutter series.

That'll be a cool feature to have. :D
I'd love to be able to equip optimized weapons while still looking the way I wanted.
Most 5 star Spiral order gear looks really cool (Valiance, Aegis) but aren't quite as powerful.

Oh, Zugama may have brought something up there.

It may become harder for the players to gauge things such as their sword's melee range, if you costumed a Khorovod with a Striker.
A comparatively small issue that would arise, but there, nonetheless.

Yo dawg(s) I heard you like

Yo dawg(s) I heard you like swords, so I put a sword in your sword so that sword doesn't even look like a real word anymore when you read it.

Yeah I was really meaning

Yeah I was really meaning mostly for guns and shields cause those are all I care about and use, unfortunately swords do seem too damn diverse. But it would just fine for shields and guns.

....Unless with a smaller sword when equipped as a costume a simple model scale value is changed to simpily scale it to the size of the sword its a costume of!

Trust me Ive modded enough games of all sorts in the past to know model scale values exist and are easy to edit :3

Maybe it would be more

Maybe it would be more appropriate to set it so only swords with the same speed type can be exchanged. It adds less customizabliity, but it'd be a fair amount less confusing.

I doubt the range would

I doubt the range would matter all that much, let alone to scrap the whole idea out. After all, costumes would be optional, if it became too annoying for you you could just take it off and move on with your life. I would love to be able to use my Wench Wand skin with other weapons, it fits more my character yet I would be unable to keep on using it beyond tier 2 because it simply isn't useful anymore compared to other things, not to mention it has NO upgrades.
Same applies to a lot of no-upgrade equipment.

I support this idea.

I support this idea. Especially considering that in the end there will always be that really great weapon/shield that practically everyone will use. Allowing costumes will give the illusion of variety when none exists. Plus, I just happen to like the look of the base Calibur sword (darker) than the later versions.

Shield costumes would be great, i agree, but weapon costumes is a really lame idea
people would be swinging around with troika with a speed of cutter and that would be just messed up and what about the charge attacks?
imagine someone holding calibur and shooting spur's disks all over the place. Shields- good idea, Weapons- lame idea

Guns run into the same

Guns run into the same problem-- different styles of guns have slightly different animations and looks. It wouldn't work.

Hence why "weapons in general" is a bad idea.

But it'd simpily boil do to a

But it'd simpily boil down to a model swap and using the animations and model of the costumed gun, while the projectiles, stats and particle effects (bullet casings, gun flare ect) of the equipped weapon are maintained. And the point is to get separate looks, I for one dont like the over the top Final Fantasy esque crazy designs of say the Antigua family, and would want something more mundane to disguise it like say any of the Spiral Order Blasters.

Also take for example in real life, modern assault shotguns dont look like pump actions anymore, they look like assault rifles and function now in a somewhat similar fashion, you have SMGs that look like pistols and the same in reverse and a lot more...

Its really just to add more diversity and flavor, to help players achieve the look they want, I mean the costume system is a godsend so far. That we dont have to dress up like miss matched clowns (Like in WoW) for gear, but really this ability should be stretched over to weapons and shields to cover all bases IMO

Or better yet as a compromise the weapons costume can be only from the family tree it belongs to...so say for eg...You can make your Faust look like a Sealed Sword or the other way around. Your Argent Peacemaker look like an Antigua but you couldn't make it look like a Blaster cause they are of a different tree. If that makes sense, since the upgraded weapon paths of each weapon tree are essentially almost always the exact same model with small changes and retexures, but they do share the exact same animations.

Tree = Caliber family of swords
Cutter family of swords
Magnus family of guns ....ect

It would still look silly

It would still look silly having a Divine Avenger not firing bullet blades on its charge. And an Antigua bullet going through monsters. (Argent Peacemaker & Sentenza Bird bullet)

So this weapon costume is kinda lame.

If anything I'd really,

If anything I'd really, really like an option to hide all costume items on other players. I don't care what you're wearing as a costume. Hiding items in SK is like hiding player level in an MMO.

Inspection

Keep in mind that when you inspect someone, even if they have full inspect "off", you see their currently equipped gear, not their costume.

And

Shield Costumes = Yes
I'd love to use a Royal Jelly Shield without it having a primary resistance that works vs approximately 4 enemies

Weapon Costumes = No
Would look silly. End of story.

that reminds me of that funny bug in PSO that allowed you to equip several weapons at once for massive glowy ridiculous weapon.

Don't take it personal, I'm just sharing my opinion.
Actually I don't like costume idea for armours and helms that much either (apart from costume-only items). But that's just me.

Hmmmn....

Given that there are only a small number of colors and a smaller number that are popular, a moderate number of armor/helmet choices and a -very- small number that are popular.... it doesn't take much to have two identical players on the screen. So it's not really like hiding your level, it's just a matter of having a distinct look. We only really need costume helmets to fix the practical play issue there, but.... since there -is- costume, might as well have costume shields too!

Weapons though, have way too many issues as they're not just decoration, they're actively animated for multiple attack types. It would be amusing to be able to wield a Super Slime Slasher as costume to go with Groundbreaker Helm and Groundbreaker Armor ... but maybe not amusing enough to justify days of design and coding time to make it possible. (A 5* slime slasher though... that has merit! ;) )

Pro shields, nay swords.

Second pretty much everything Senshi posted adding the masking of guns.

The swords are still a no since they would look off as pointed out animation / speed wise. The gun disguise is once again purely theoretical as it would suffer the same drawbacks as sword disguises.

So yeah, shields please :)
