I'm sure that most of u have stumbled upon an item that has that strange eye symbol. the geraviton bomb, graviton vortex, electron bomb, and the electron vortex are all giant eyeball bombs, the curse sign is an eye, those stautes in the advanced training hall have one eye (not to mention a troika line sword and cat ears.), the faust and gran faust both have eyes, the avanger and divine avernger have them, and now, on the Spiral Knights home page, the update picture showing the new Shadow Lair update has some kind of giant eyeball staring over the entrance to the Core!!!!!!!!

this is probably a useless question, but does anyone know what they mean or stand for? i'm guessing they have some kind of relationship to those Titans i keep hearing about for some reason.

Go Google "evil eye".

My job is done.

If your too lazy, basically, it's a look that is believed in many cultures to bring bad luck/misfortune. Basically, it's a curse.

Or something like that.

There's also one on the 'Danger Gauge'. If you make it as far as depth 6 while wearing unleveled Proto gear, the warning icon turns from orange, to red, to that 'evil purple' color, with a black spot at the center. Looks pretty eyelike.

^ Because

The Divine Avenger is like the "reformed" version of the Sealed Sword. Avenger. Suggests lust for vengence, no? Vengence against the dark forces! SHWAA.

I think your all wrong.

The eye stands for sealed power, thats why its on the avenger but not the divine avenger and why its on the Faust but not on the Gran Faust.

I've been wondering about that eye as well, and thinking about it made me look up this old video regarding an old chum who hasn't been in the game for a good while: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnIgFnz6Y1U&t=49
You know, what with the whole eyes covering its entire body and whatnot. The whole eye of evil thing seems a bit too consistent to be coincidence, at least to me. Maybe soon he'll be making his triumphant return?

Edit: Upon further investigation, the eye symbol appears on other monsters, like greavers and the like. So maybe I'm just being overly hopeful or something.

Yo, guys.

It's called "Swarm" in the files. It's the Core of the Planet, probably the creature that corrupted Vanaduke. It's basically the source of all cursing items, from what I know. The Graviton set is probably meant to show it's desperation for destruction ("Within my dream, I saw it open the void, felt its endless hunger"), the Sealed Sword set is meant to show it's great power ("When I open my eyes, all I see are the nightmares that haunt me while they are closed. And a rage flushes over me, and with it, the power that will let nothing stand in my way forever.")

For now, let's just call it the Titan, after the Gate-type.

Here's a good look at the latter of Cradle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1ijbSUfik0

Double post, but something just struck me.

Perhaps Vanaduke wrote these things, now that I look at them. He either met Vog or the Titan, maybe something else, so we probably won't know for a while.

And many of us will fight it.

It's probably Vog that he met, though.

"He cried out to the god of the mountain to punish them, to give him the strength to take his kingdom back. In his frenzy he looked to the face of the deity and in it he began to see the face deform. The image burned into his eyes and brain like cinders, and contained that which sounded like the screaming of foreign tongues and war drums. With this, Vanaduke began to sink into the ash. He choked on the ash as it pulled him below, tasting sulfur his screams now sounding of roaring flames. "

Back on Subject, the Titan is probably a leftover of the "Great War" that there seems to have been, before and during (Early?)Haven.

@Electrodoom - It appears

@Electrodoom - It appears "the architect" though so too. (Iron Munitions Factory's Echo Stone, spoilers)

@Vaati - The Swarm seems to be the official name (they'd probably mention if that wasn't the official name.), and the description on Unknown Passage was written by Magnus. The Sanctuary one comes from Gloaming Wildwoods' Echo Stone. Worth reading the other stones aswell if you don't mind spoilers, although Firestorm Citadel's stone is yet to be documented.

Vanaduke: I'm fairly sure the creature that corrupted Vanaduke was Vog. In the old promotional video (from 2009) you can see some old Vog Cubs and their model, and the fire glows and all are very similar. Nick once talked about how Vog was more like a treacherous deity of fire, which embraces some creatures with his "power". In this case, it was more of a curse.

The Swarm's model: That actual model/mob hasn't been released yet (or no one has fought it yet, if it does show up past UFSC - I can confirm he does not show up on the other Shadow Lairs), so that still counts as a spoiler, so it's not really allowed to post it.

holy...

this changes everything i thought about the Core.

new theory: the planet Cradle was once and ordinary planet. But somehow, the... that thing, something of pure energy, thats was to be guarded ended up hiding in the core of the planet. tinkinzar was supposed to build the clockworks to protect it, but he betrayed the thing and turned the clockworks into a death trap.

the thingamabob must be the thing the helps tinkinzar build the clockworks.

Swarm was probably always there.

I'm pretty sure it was the other, low-class gremlins that actually built it. The Crimson order probably distributed this plan to them, seeing as Tinkinzar locks himself away like a teenage Hikikomori.
