What's the best gear for shadow lair?
That is a tough one. It would be nice to have a helm with both Pierce and Shadow, but the truth is that a Max Shadow UV is incomparable to 5* defense. When in T3, Max Shadow will do almost nothing to reduce damage taken. For example, Shadow Max on Vog reduces Strata 6 Howlitzer attacks from 7.5 to 7 pips of damage per hit, and Zombies (half Shadow) are reduced from 8 to 7.5. Much better off with a Poison Max which is equivalent to a 5* armor's status resist.
Shields last longer by either getting status or damage, so I'd prefer status since almost every is going to be doing poison damage vs only half the things doing some specific damage type. Here's my hypothetical best...

On the test server I tried both BTS and Dread Skelly and found that BTS was sufficient against undead areas and, of course, lasted much longer for beasts. Either is fine though. The BTS's damage bonus also means you can swap out a damage trinket for something else and still hit max. Max CTR on the FF is useful for tearing into Alphas. The DA's ASI is just to allow fast shielding when facing down many Kats.
This is serious overkill for UGWW :) But it would be quite ideal.
@Culture: Does your examples of Shadow Max example in T3 on one piece of Vog or both pieces? If both, then that is seriously underwhelming for how much they go for!
Max on just 1 piece. I haven't gotten to test two maxes :) Anyone out there with two of the same kind of max though... that would be great to try out to see if it helps by any more.
The status UVs used to be overpowered/bugged. It was only fixed after people did some extensive testing with FoV pointing out that even UV Fire Low made massive difference. Maybe damage UVs aren't supposed to be so weak.
Trying a one-size fits all approach for all the hardest content in the game is a mistake. I only dipped my toes on the test server, but he's my thoughts.
Wildwoods - A shadow/piercing mixture with poison defense. Deadly Virulisk or Skolver plus Dread Skelly or Fallen is probably the best mixture. Crest of Almire seems like the best shield for the job, considering all the shadow damage you'll probably take from the turrets. DBB for wolver groups and an alchemer for the shadow turrets sounds like the best plan to me. I guess the rest would be up to you.
Jelly - Skolver or Deadly Virulisk. Basically, take your pick of Freeze defense or extra damage. Or mix and match! Whatever you ordinarily wear for max performance in a T2 Jelly run is probably fine. However, Ash of Agni seems like it would be your best friend here.
IMF - Grey Owlite to deal with dual Fire/Shock, or get Vog with some shock UVs or shock trinkets. Grey Owlite Shield is no brainer here. Divine Avenger and Glacius are recommended for your swords. You definitely don't want Combuster or Voltedge igniting the oilers and quicksilvers.
FSC - Still Vog/VolcDemo and Crest of Almire. I'd bring whatever you normally would wear to max performance in normal FSC, unless that's Fallen.
Above user knows what he's talking about, although his choices for gear differ from mine (mostly because i forgot virulisk exists).
Once you get hit you get poisoned, once you get poisoned your extra defenses will matter less than they already do as such i believe you should max poison first then go for defenses. A max poison uv somewhere should do a lot coupled with radiant silvermail which Im not sure helps as many monsters do split damage on tier3, you'd have to test unless someone knows already. In that sens you could technically do with skelly set piercing max or skolver poison max
Id go with polaris to cancel the turrets
