So as some people pointed out, the mats are distributed in a seemingly random fashion. So I guess this post can be closed haha. TY guys for pointing that out, I noticed it immediately.

Yeah - If you notice, if you pick stuff up sometimes you don't get it. It's distributed amongst the party members in a somewhat random fashion.

The materials are divided
The materials are divided randomly between party members.
Drops are NOT a free-for all, they are randomly distributed among the party members--it does not matter who picks it up.
EDIT: Monster materials are randomly distributed, but potions and vita pods ARE for whoever picks them up first. If you are having trouble, try asking your party members if you could have the vial or vita pod--often, people will help you.
