I have often read that selling materials is a good way to get some more Crowns, but I don't know the best way to do so. So I have a few questions: What are the best kinds of material to sell (or should I sell all of them)? I also want to know what price to sell them at.

Thank you for your help.

Mostly 5* mats are the only

Mostly 5* mats are the only ones worth selling.
If you find one, just look what the going price is at the AH. Some of them aren't worth anything and others are regularly 2-3k.

Just a few steps to begin selling stuff.

Hi Foblect. Although I am not a pro at selling stuff, I can point you in the right direction. Usually the the higher star items like Trojan Horseshoe, Unstable Core, Drake Scale and so on would sell for a high price (about 3 star onwards).

A good way to start would be to go to the Auction House and check out the Buy prices for the materials you want to sell.
Then, click the "My Auctions" tab and select the stuff you want to sell off.
Make sure to set the Bid price to around a few Crowns below or above the lowest price of the materials in the market.
Next, choose how much time you wish to put up your materials for sale.
After that, just wait for people to start buying your stuff.

The Auction House (AH) will charge you quite a bit for the service of advertising your materials for sale.
The higher the star rating, the higher the listing fee is for each unit of the materials being sold.

It's best to try it out on a few items at a time so that your amount of Crowns doesn't dwindle too much.
After some trial and error, then you adjust your methods accordingly. Take care.

Materials really aren't worth selling.

Contrary to what you've been reading, selling materials isn't a good way to earn crowns (unless you're a in-game peasant or the material is a rare object needed for crafting some kick-ass weapon). Try to sell 4* or 5* mats all the time, since 0-3* stuff just nets you a few dozen crowns, which really isn't worth your time or the listing fee it takes to get your item into the AH.

To Foblect & Metagenic

@ Foblect: Your welcome, Foblect. Hope you're enjoying the game!

@ Metagenic: I agree that selling normal, low star materials does not give out a lot of Crowns.
That's why I gave examples of materials that fetch a high price in #2.
I usually do JK runs in order to earn a high amount of Crowns.
I sell the high star materials just to get a few extra Crowns once in a while.
Anyways, thanks for the good point. Have a wonderful day!

While dumping low ranked

While dumping low ranked materials into NPC vendors is easiest way to profit off them, certain ones can sell at a decent price because they're used for popular equipment, which people will mass-craft for UVs. Green shards and monster bones in particular are worth selling to other players in bulk, because they're used to make the ubiquitous Wolver armor. To get an idea of what materials are worth extra, it helps to spend a little time poking through the auction house, paying particular attention to the highest active bids and lowest buy-out prices. Keep the trade channel open as well, because that's where people will announce they're mass-buying materials.

Prices are always change

Befor selling any material better to check again are price for that mat still the same. With new gate opening , drop of same material can extrimly change , shards can one day cost 5 cr per shard , next day 80 cr per shard it depends (rare drop of popular mat higher it s price) . Not always 5* mat or rare mat have high price , it belongs on need of those mat in popular recepy for exp . Primal ore (scolver recepy) can be sold up to 3000 cr and Royal ore (idk where it useable) you wont sell for 200 cr. Do not sel a big pack of mat that require high listing fee because if nobody buy it you wont get cr you paid for listing, so it better sometimes put buy out price lower than listing fee if you are sure that i will be sold, in that way you get your money back and AH take only 10% of buy out price. Remember vendors price for items 0-1* materials they buy for 1 cr, 2*for 5 cr, 3* for 10 cr, 4*for 25 cr and 5* for 50 cr.

Shards

Shards are ALWAYS needed since (as far as I know) every recipe uses them. Blue and green sell for the most (~40 cr each), but even red and yellow (~10 each) fetch decent prices for 0-star mats.
