Players often wait for a room to change with no idea how long they'll have to wait, so could you please, please, pretty please (with sugar on my knees) put a clock above the monitor counting down to the next change. That way we can decide if we want to wait or not, or if we have time to get a snack while waiting, etc. (Wow, this is a good idea! I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner.)

Not that I've noticed, but I wouldn't rule it out.
If you're interested, you can read my elaborate theorizing here: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/22912
I assume that a certain amount of inconvenience is intentional, since otherwise you wouldn't have to wait in the first place.
In a given gate at a given depth, the time between level changes is always the same, so if you time it on one run, you'll know it's the same next time. That still doesn't tell you whether it just changed or is about to change when you arrive, but it gives you a range and lets you make reasonable estimates.
I've timed level changes as short as 1:45 and as long as 30+ min., so which floor you're waiting at really does make a big difference.
