What do you think is better full shadow or full elemental? How about full normal? Or should I vary stuff? Like have mixed up armor? What about UV's do u think it's better to get them by crafting or just buying equips from auction house and then get thAt gremlin guy to put uvs if you hav the crowns?
Shadow vs. elemental
What im talking about is armor. Since your post I have already gotten the sklelly suit from my friend. What I have in mind is to upgrade my skelly suit to it's 5* form and then get stuff with elemtal defense so I can be balanced. Maybe i'll upgrade the owlite shield I have to 5*. Sorry you got confused by "full elemental and full shadow". I guess you could say I wAnted to boost my shadow or elemental by getting another piece of armor with same defense like a shadow def helm and then shadow def shield. I know id come across enemies who deal shadow and elemental damage in tier 3.
Also nice suggestions for sets.
I applaud the Dread Skelly suit and helm, based on their looks alone. You could pair Dread Skelly Suit with Dragon Scale Helm, to get all four damage types and no fire penalty. Or, if you're a swordsman, maybe pair Dread Skelly Suit with Vog Cub Cap? That set doesn't have piercing, but piercing is arguably less important than the other types (because slimes and chromalisks are slow, and wolvers tear through armor anyway).
I remember when i used to have the same quandaries myself, so i would be happy to answer :)
It's always fantastic to get a max uv in a stat ur equipment is missing. I.e. max pierce or shadow on Vog, Max pierce or shadow on demo armor, etc.
In general shadow is considered the best, because the only really grindable t3 boss is in an undead strata (FSC).
the reason why max is considered so much better than even a 'high' uv is because you want the UV to add enough defense that it is actually gonna make a difference in gameplay. A fantastic set up--one desired by many players, is max shadow on both vog cap and coat. With 2 max shadows you effectively have the equivalent of an armor that has shadow defense.
Another example of this, and a little more applicable to someone who is still rising in the game and not getting their endgame uv's together yet is this:
Say you have 3* bomber armor==normal+elem defense. Now you want pierce defense to compliment this and help you in Jelly King palace. You get med pierce on your helm. Before i said you want to fill a missing stat, but in this situation i would almost rather prefer a low pierce on my armor than a med shadow. Why? Because adding up to high pierce (low+med) is gone to give you more effective defense than having med pierce+med shadow. You would be better off to specialize this armor, and then make something with shadow defense for shadow strata.
Hope this helps.
A couple truths about UV's:
1. Poison and curse are both pretty useless, even if they are max. There are simply too many strata when you'll never see a poison or curse. Also, it's fairly easy to just avoid stuff or stop and wait it out when poisoned/cursed.
2. A low UV by itself is almost useless if it is not buffering a stat that you are already covering by armor. I.e. if you have Bomber armor and 1 low shadow uv on 1 piece, it will rarely ever make a difference between living or dying.
3. Fire and shock are very good UV's to have. It's easy to forget this when you are first starting out.
4. UV's allow you much greater flexibility in what armors you can mix and match.
A couple myths about UV:
1. Stun is useless. It is not sexy at all. Everyone will say, i don't need stun i don't get hit by lumbers, zombie breath, vanaduke etc. Yet, i have never played with anyone who doesn't get stunned on occasion. Stun is very useful, just not very appealing. As a result, the market value for stun is lower than it should be. So you can buy it cheap, but can't sell it for crap lol.
2. You have to have UV's. Not really true at all. You can just as easily (and more cheaply in the long run) have alternate sets of equip and use them in appropriate strata.
Your post is a little unclear. Are you talking entirely about armor, and not at all about weapons? And what do you mean by "full"? You mean that both pieces defend against that damage type? Even then, some of the damage is going to get through. On Tier 3, a LOT will get through.
For armor, I recommend that you build up a general-purpose set, and then acquire additional pieces to build specialized sets. The specific choice depends on what weapons you use. For swordsmen, for example, I recommend Divine Veil, Skolver Coat, and Grey Owlite Shield for a general-purpose set, followed by Vog Cub, Skolver Cap, Barbarous Thorn Shield, maybe Deadshot, and Crest of Almire. (I haven't looked into the new Shadow Lair armor.)
If you're asking, "Which damage type is more important to defend against?", then the answer depends somewhat on where you hang out (e.g. piercing in Royal Jelly Palace), but generally speaking elemental damage is more prevalent than shadow damage in Spiral Knights, I think.
