Hey everyone! I am not new to SK in the least... but I only own two 5 star swords...
I have just mainly been upgrading armor / helms / shields for the past few months...
I only have a Leviathan / Acheron / Vile Striker / and recently a Sealed Sword (I have a Valiance handgun).
Thats it... Those are my weapons. :)
The Levi and Acheron have been awesome for me and i use them everywhere... I have CTR max trinkets and my ASI is either Ultra or High depending on the gear im wearing.
1. I got the Vile Striker for use in slashing up the Royal Jelly... But now that he is weak to shadow, my acheron does just fine. Is it worth leveling up to Dread Venom? I feel i am fairly vulnerable using the striker because it is so fast... but its fun to learn and get used to. Is the DVS worth it as an ALL-AROUND sword in the game?
2. Should I level up the sealed to Divine? or get some other kind of Elemental sword? (Glacius?) I definitely like speedier swords... but it seems the DA is an awesome weapon... but im thinking if Glacius would be better? Im already used to the Acheron so Glacius would not be much of a learning curve whereas the DA is a slow sword so relearning with it would be different...
3. What Piercing sword should i get? It seems the Barbarous is the best bet...
Thanks for the tips!!
the gear i have and wear are:
ARMOR:
Fallen, Vog, Skolver, Radiant Silvermail, Valkyrie
HELM:
Fallen, Vog, (eventually Skolver cap)
SHIELD:
Barbarous, Volcanic Plate, and Grey Owlite
Thanks again!
1. No, the DVS is not worth it. It has some fans, but for Tier 3 Cutters are hard to use (albeit fun). For Tier 2, the 4-star version is about as good, due to weakening of weapons above their tier. Even for the old version of JK, I did not recommend upgrading Vile Striker.
2. I use Glacius more than DA nowadays, but I still like DA, and I use it in FSC. One of my favorite features of Spiral Knights is that different weapons, and in particular swords, actually feel different. So I recommend that you give slow swords a serious try. You're right, of course, that Glacius is more similar to Acheron than DA is to Acheron. To me, this is not an important consideration. I usually play with three swords, and often they are swords of entirely different feels (e.g. DA, Acheron, BTB), and I have no trouble switching among them.
3. Piercing swords have been compared in many threads. The short version is that FF and BTB are equally good, and identical in regular attacks. FF's charge hurts one monster badly, while BTB's charge hurts a few monsters less badly. The other two piercing swords offer status effects at the expense of some damage. The conventional wisdom is that you'd rather have the damage than the status effects.
