I currently have 2 4* sword recipes with all the mats that I need- a Dark Thorn Blade and a Faust. By the time I have the energy/crowns to make one sword, I will have my Sealed Sword for my Faust. Now my question is, should I wait to craft my Faust or should I craft my Faust first?

faust is part normal so while

faust is part normal so while it wont be as useful at some parts of the game its damage will not drop to the bottom of the sea, if these are your only swords get faust i guess, although most would suggest avenger

What else are you using at

What else are you using at the moment? The Faust was my second 4* sword after the Ascending Calibur. At the time, I thought that it would make jelly farming, hence the acquisition of another Sealed Sword for the Avenger, easier. But it turned out that I still prefer the Ascending Calibur even for Jelly farming. The main problem is the speed, especially if you are using a non ASI boosted sword, wearing non ASI boosted Vog. But even with maxed ASI, the second swing still leave you wide open if it does not finish off the target. And if you are shielding after every hit, you lose the benefit of curse.

If your question was, should you craft the DTB first, or should you wait and craft the Faust, then I would personally go DTB (or a Flourish) first. The Faust is strong against Slime and Gremlins, both I reckon are quite easily dealt with a normal damage sword (and in the case of the evasive Gremlin bombers, the DTB may even be advantageous). A piercing sword is strong against beasts and fiends, and I consider both - especially the later - higher priority to slimes.

That's just me though, your mileage may vary.

largely agree

It would be great to know what your weapons are, and how many weapon slots you have. Weapons don't exist in isolation; they complement each other. In the end, you're going to want to have a piercing sword (FF or BTB), an elemental sword (DA is good, but others are also good), and a shadow sword (Ach or GF), even if you don't carry all of them at once.

Business-Lady is largely right. The sad thing about Gran Faust is that it should be awesome against gremlins (due to shadow damage) but it's so slow that a piercing sword is arguably better. These days, I use Acheron far more than Gran Faust, because it's shadow and decently fast against gremlins (and safer to charge, and fine against slimes).

Business-Lady is also right about being vulnerable on the second swing of a Gran Faust, but this is something that you learn. When you are skilled at the slow swords, landing two-stroke combos without getting bit by the monsters, it is really...beautiful. That's my favorite feature of Spiral Knights --- that different swords actually feel different.
