First of all, lets take out a few weapons. (Swords were out but too many disagreed even though Vanaduke.. but fine. Swords.
Only normal weapons probably. I'd take Valiance out, for the Wolvers and Devilites dodgin.
For me, I'd choose Iron Slug. Why? Because it can kill everything in the game.
My 2nd choice would be Nitronome.

Leviathan Blade, even though you forbade swords and I never use Leviathan Blade.
While its fairly obvious the candidate should be a normal weapon, doing everything with only one weapon is near impossible or at least so inefficient that it'd be a waste of time. Vanaduke with only a leviathan blade is doable I'm sure, but a real waste of time. Similarly, Roarmulus with only a normal gun? Waste...of...time. And nitronome is great but uh...yeah pretty sure that'd be near a waste of time too. Even RSS which can kill a lot of things, I don't think you'd want to go anywhere with only that.

This means the knockback that annoys teammates is not an issue.
While the iron slug would be okay, it'd be far too slow. I like my callahan, but could not use it exclusively as the slow rate of fire would drive me MAD.
Also, swords are out because it makes this question more fun. (And dealing with a wall of turrets with only a levi would suck.)
A sword isnt the most useful weapon ingame :P To be honest, I do don't see even one reason why to take a sword instead of a gun :o
I'd take Supernova for sure!! T3 Wolver are the only mob that will become a bit hard to hit. Iron Slug is a good choice too i think, but the damage is just moderate :/
That's your point of view Abathur. Except for puppies/annoying things across spikes, i don't see a reason to take a gun over a sword or a bomb.
But the op doesn't have much choice. It would be a normal damage weapon, and there are 4 good choices :
- Leviathan sword, because it's the best all around sword. There is a reason why it's so popular
- Valliance gun. Good weapon all around with a little knockback for 5* version. Not popular because normal guns are not popular
- Supernova gun. Better damage than Valliance, but the expanded shot will be annoying in a party. Even less popular than Valliance because Polaris outclass it for most use.
- Nitronome bomb. This is the solo bomb of choice. Unfortunately, it's not advised to use it in party due to high knockback and extreme graphic effect. It would be my 2nd choice, behind Leviathan.
The other normal options are :
- Troika series : slow sword would be an option if only Troika series damage was not sub-par and its charge attack terrible.
- Winmillion : only go to 4*, hard to use, meaning not recommended at all
- Cutter series : very dangerous style, will probably get you killed in seconds in T3 if you are not a pro. The Leviathan charge is a good reason to take it over Cutter series
- Neutralizer : too slow bullets, doesn't poison like it's shadow counterpart. Not recommended because dodging mobs (especially teleporting T3 wolvers) would be a hug pain.
- Iron Slug : slow fire rate, root you when firing, not that good damage. If you want a gun only for dodging enemies, you'd better have the Callahan bonus damage
- Pepperbox : root you in place for too long, will get you killed against some enemies.
- Big Angy Bomb / Irontech Destroyer : both are outclassed by Nitronome, any experienced bomber will tell you that.
I think you already have gone too deep. There is no "Biohazard is betterthan Neutralizer due of poison" or "Callahan Bonus over Iron Slug". If you could just choose one weapon, I would take for example Iron Slug over Callahan ... Ever killed a Mecha Knight with Callahan D:
I guess Leviathan, Valliance or Supernova.
btw. you say there is no reason to take a gun over a sword ... but what's the reason to take a sword over a gun? to carry a bomb only is hard i guess, i think it would be hard if you are not able to charge or if there are puppies :/
What I meant is you shouldn't use Iron Slug / Neutralizer over other guns on target their specialized counterpart is weak to in the first place, because they are not that good at this job. Sure, you can kill a Mecha Knight with an Iron Slug, you can even do that with a proto gun. That doesn't mean you should take an Iron Slug over other guns.
A bit off-topic, I guess, but i pick a sword over a gun for :
- reliable ability to hit multiple target (I am more into heavy swords, that still works for fast swords)
- reliable knockback toward a convenient direction (because Pulsar expanded bullets will often have a knockback in the wrong direction)
- more damage (by that i don't only mean higher damage per swing but also higher dps)
- more fun, because you'll use your shield more actively and dodge a lot more (this point is very personal though), compared to kitting all the time

I guess swords are able to hit more than 2 mobs at the same time. I think you even can hit 2 rows of mobs, so you hit 1-6 mobs - nice damage muliplicator. Notice that guns can hit too 2 mobs with any bullet, alchemer even more, up to 4 different mobs or 4 times the same and if you would be perfect lucky hitting allways 2 per shot you hit 8 mobs per bullet, but I think its impossible to do that xP

Yea Pulsar is pretty annoying most of the time. Same for Bomb, but Leviathan Charge >.> I hate it ...

Leviathan Blade
Your rules suck. I carry one always and use it 98% of the time.
A wall of turrets is simple business with a Levi. Even the danger room with two facing walls of turrets and a rocket puppy at the top and bottom.
Other weapons are good for special circumstances.
Sometimes I like to take on a stratum with nothing but the Shivermist buster. It's tedious but totally doable. I discovered this when leveling piercing weapons on construct stratum.
Since swords out then it'll be "Neutralizer" i'd not take Supernova because i hate polaris line due knockback.

Sorry I forgot to mention. But I thought most of you would catch on..
But if you REALLY REALLY want swords, I'll let you take a sword. SWORDS ARE IN. Though a gun or sword would be better.. :P

Actually, i'm thinking about getting that since i don't want a polaris because i have an avenger and a prisma driver (no more elemental weapons for me)
