TOOO MANY LOCKBOX

On just one run(from 19 to core) i got 5 in total, 4 of wich came in a row. I can (but won't right now) barely pay to open 2 of them and selling them doesn't give that much reward, noone wants them, specially with Boost giving shadow keys. Hey, even when i was bragging about this with a friend in haven, a random guy gave me one more box for nothing.

But the reason I post this is: lockboxes are way too common (or god wants me to spend energy). Either that or the wheel bugged since it's strange to get multiple times in a row the same 'special' reward.

Before someone ask, no I don't have a video, I just want to know if this was my dumb luck or the wheel truly froze on the same position because of a glitch.

In my experience

When lockboxes debuted I got one on my very first wheel spin.

After literally hundreds of gates since I haven't received another one.

The thing about random is that it is randomly possibly to get the same thing 100 times in a row.

For the first few days after

For the first few days after lockboxes were released, I got 5 of them. Then nothing until yesterday, but in the last two days I've gotten another three.

Truly random numbers often don't appear to be "random" to people and people see patterns where they don't exist. Still, at the current price of lockboxes on the AH, it is clear that reducing the spawn rate wouldn't hurt the game. If the spawn rate was lower so that lockboxes were, say, 10kCR each, it would tend to be a crown transfer from richer/more established players to newer/poorer players, and I think that would be good for the game.

Oh, and shouldn't this be in the Suggestions forum?

Sure there are a lot of lock boxes, but they would be able to be sold higher if people didn't only play the undercutting game.Everyone forgets the buyout and reset option, or they are to poor too do it.

@Algol-Sixty Luckily there's

@Algol-Sixty Luckily there's statistical methods to evaluate the randomness of a given sequence of events. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wald–Wolfowitz_runs_test

However, given the low probability of lockboxes dropping, it would probably be difficult to gather a large enough sample to make any sort of solid inference.

Yes, that i just one of the many tests included in the diehard tests

it would probably be difficult to gather a large enough sample to make any sort of solid inference.

The diehard tests only need 3 million data points!

OK, even if we could collect a large enough set of unbiased samples, we would run into the problem that it is quite likely that OOO has been tweaking the drop rate over time. I suspect OOO initially had a high drop rate because lots of people would want to try accessories and again raised the drop rates when shadow lairs came out.
