I suggest a sythe for a weapon. There isnt one yet and i love sythes, there a uniqe weapon that isnt as comman as a sword. It would be shadow elemented and its 5 star forms charge attack would cause your shadow to rise out of the ground in an exact siloute of you and give a desistating slash directly in front of you. Tell me what you think or things tha could be added or how it would look, i am always open to ideas.
New weapon
If you actually meant a scythe, I like your idea very much.
I think the animation does not have to be so complicated, special and detailed, because sometimes less is more, but I don't really care. I would use a scythe anyways.
"Although the scythe isn't pre-eminent among the weapons of war, anyone who has been on the wrong end of, say, a peasants' revolt will know that in skilled hands it is fearsome."
-- Sir Terence David John Pratchett
Thank you, I kept getting it wrong, it's scythe(s)
How would you differentiate it from a heavy sword? Or are we talking simple reskin?
Longer range?
...Disjointed range?
Hey, that might be worth taking a look at. Much greater range than a sword, but only the blade damages, so it's impossible to hit any enemies close to the player. They'd be practically useless against Greavers. Of course, given the relative sizes of players and monsters, I can't think of a reasonably long range that can overshoot nearby monsters without making the scythe look ludicrously big (i.e. 3x the player's size)...
...maybe a flail. But that's straying a bit too much, now.
Would be interesting as a new element to swordfighting - keeping enemies at a fixed range.
@Kupoo: Good point there, but I do suppose it would be very difficult to get used to it.
@Goldgamer: Your charge attack is nothing more than a fancy version of lunging forward and slashing, actually. If anything it just looks great; though I think you do have an interesting point with the silhouette. If it had another interesting function unseen in previous swords, I'd say you have a pretty good idea going.
Ya i know the charge animation is a bit flashy but i just think it would be cool because i always veiw light and dark as 2 diffrent halfs of a person. In this way the scythe brings out the dark side of your knight for an attack. And yes more variety would be very nice, lances , flails, morning stars. I mean what game doesnt have some type of sword in it so adding more would be a nice breath of fresh air. As for fixed attacked ranges i could easily see that get annoying because alot of the eneimes in the clock works are fast and you would miss alot.
well if you want to incorperate teh shadow bit into regular attacks you could let the weapon have a second attack with each swing (akin to cutters or winmillion), represented by the shadow attacking with you, which would be unique in a slow "sword". To incorperate the disjointed range without being increadably vulnerable to greavers (which frankly you would be anyway, what with shadow damage and all), only one of the attacks is disjointed, thus against things agacent you hit once, but hit twice against things farther out.
Question on the charge attack, does it ocupy the knight? What i mean is normaly when you release a charge attack your knight performs the attack, but with this its the shadow performing the attack, so does that mean the knight can just walk away, or attack, or block while the charge attack goes on independent of him, or is he still locked in the charge unable to act untill its finished?
Well i wouldnt want your shadow to become independant of you an act like a mehca knight. I meant it would appear and slash ahead of you then return to being a normal shadow. Also it would be cool if the shadow had glowing red eyes. Your idea to have it fight along side you with your slashes would be amazing.
Why cant we have axes/lances/spears/rocket launchers? Idk really....
Love this idea!
@Goldgamer, what frosty meant is when the shadow uses the charge attack and then disappears, will the you be able to leave the scene while the charge is in process? It wont walk around like a mecha though, once the charge is completed it will disappear. If so, that would make it a highly favorable weapon.
Names:
2* Steel Sickle
3* Gigasteel Sickle
4* Shadow steel Scythe
5* Scythe of Cursed Shadows (that names a bit long, also, all actacks made by the shadow will have a chance to curse)
The names arnt that great, but it will create a good base for them.
How about it doesnt get the shadow until 4*?
ya and i am not sure being able to move while the shadow attacks i could see some balance issues there so i am not entirly sure. They should also add armour thats a cloak so you cant see your knihgts eyes and the cloak is jet black so in the clock works you can look like a reaper XD
@Desouler
Another fan of Discworld, I see.
Goldgamer, regarding post #7:
We already have some non-sword close ranged weapons, but the problem is, they are lame and can't be upgraded for use in deeper tiers:
- (Heavy) Hatchet
- (Big) Beast Basher
- (Super) Slime Slasher
- Thwack Hammer
- Wrench Wand
So basically it would be cool to have upgrade paths up to 5 star for them, at least.
Lances, flails and morning stars would be fine, too, as long as they go down to 5 star, because I know hardly a knight who tries to stay tier 1 just for having a greater variety of weapons.
Oh, and can I haz a 5 star chainsaw and a costume hockey goaltender mask pls, thx.
well since it would be really powerful maybe not being able to use a sheild or it takes 2 inventory spots so u cant change weapon?
it would be flashy but the damge ratio and critical chance could be set to any thing so i dont see how it could be over powered
lol, yeah, why do people always assume everything is overpowered. The developers can adjust it and add flaws, so it won't be overpowered.
critical chance? Never heard of it in this game cuz there is no such thing....I suggested it once...http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/29736
Also, yeah if you wanna talk overpowered, lets switch to DA, GF, Vog cub, and thorns. Basically, if we incorporate the idea of an extra shadow strike after each regular hit, the damage of each strike would be lower than that of other heavy swords, so it wont be 4 fast GF hits. And the charge is just something to look cool, but i can see no high advantage to it. The idea of the no sheild is silly...its one the core things of this game, without it you see will how helpless you are, so is the 2 slot idea. If those ideas were used, they should alreadly be placed on DA, GF and thorns...geeez...people think of every suggestion as OP these days, but never look back at existing stuff. Look, most players will have this set: Full Vog, Grey owlite shield/Snarby sheild, DA/GF/Thorn, and Polaris of course. ever wonder why majority of players at least have chunks of this set, and a lot with the exact?
I think the reason why a majority of players have Thorn/Snarby stuff is, because you can get it with tokens from a Tier 1 boss. So you can get it early and there is no real reason to give up on it, so you stick to it and craft it better.
I also think, that many people have the equipment you mentioned as being common, because it is being advertised by other players or in tutorials in the wiki.
You will experience, that people who don't give much about other peoples opinions and prefer to find their own way, instead of reading tutorials, will often have totally different stuff. This is because uncommon stuff often looks neat and is well balanced, too.
"Thorn/Snarby stuff is, because you can get it with tokens from a Tier 1 boss. So you can get it early and there is no real reason to give up on it, so you stick to it and craft it better."
No. I didn't go back and get any snarby items until Tier 3. It is just too good to pass up though.
Khamsin, but did you start in tier 1 with a Snarby present?
... because when I was in tier 1 there was no Snarby, yet. Newer players, however, started tier one with Snarby always being there, so until they got ready for tier 2 they had fought him a coupla times and thus had the opportunity to get Snarby stuff. This is, unless they bought all their tier 2 gear with $$$ instead of doing tier 1 runs with mist, then crafting or buying from the loot.
PS: I wonder if it is possible to beg ones way to tier 2, without ever playing a single tier 1 match, but the one to reach Moorcroft. XD
@Desouler you need to play 15 T1 levels before you can get T2 access. Other than that, probably.
That may explain why I meet people in tier 2, who don't know the most basic stuff. I mean, they should know about shields, fire pots, totems, traps, the big purple lichen colonies, trojans and danger rooms, because they were playing the tutorial, the crash site stuff and tier 1 levels, so why didn't they see this stuff before?
The scythe is 3* does split shadow/Peircing damage. It is a average speed sword and its combo is like the spur. The charge is a spin which does low knockback but massive damage. Everytime you bit someone, specks of light and a ghost flies out. This represents the soul being ripped out.
Line(s)
Scythe
3*Scythe: Afromentioned above
4*Reaper: More damage, has a very weak(1 in a million) chance of causing one hit kill on normal enermies called Reaper's Touch.
5*Apocalypse: More Damage and causes reapers chance still at that very low rate(10 in a million).
Cerberus(pure shadow)
3*Scythe: same as above
4*Cerberus: Low chance of dealing Fire. Spin radius is smaller than Scythe lines but releases a hell hound in the direction of the player that causes fire.
5*Spawn of Typhon: Higher chance of dealing fire. Hellhound has 3 heads and homes in on a nearby enermy and a big radius to deal fire.
Rapture(elemental/Peicing)
3*Scythe:SAME! WHY ARE YOU READING THIS PART!
4*Rapture: Like the Scythe line, but deals rare chances of stun with or without charge.
5*Judgement Blade: Stronger version of Rapture
I like the idea for the diffrent scythes...and the name Rapture XD. I also really like the idea of the soul being ripped out part very good idea.
Use a slightly Larger Hand-Scythe! X3
Also, it should be a Heavy weapon, we don't need a shadow, Levi with six hits... (Exaggeration :P )
Note: Scythes are meant for Cutting! Wheat! No Pierceing! XP
The charge at 2* & 3* should be a simple 200° swing with a hitbox of, say, 1.5 on the sides and 2 or 2.5 in the front...
And at 4* and 5* the Charge launches you back 1.5 squares back as your shadow rips out of you to run 2.5 squares forward in a split second and use a 220° Swing With a chance of curse and a bit of knock back. Timed so that when you are done being flung back and recovering, the Shadow is gone. At 5* Blue Flames spurt out of foes when hit. (Souls ;D )
I would only suggest a Poison and MAYBE a fire alt path... black flames for the Fire and green for Poison at 5*
Also the charge Damage would only be a bit more than the Second swing, to balance.
Perhaps the unique trait for the swings would be a step back and a Vacuum on the first swing, followed by a hit with a bit of knock back. (The vacuum would interrupt)
I think this would make a fun Weapon and add some variety... :3
hmm i like it it gives the reason for the shadow as it would me nice move to clear and area or get away if need be. And yes variety is one of the reason i started this post in the first place
I like all the ideas alot of them could come together nicly. I really like the blue that wopuld come out of enemys like soul fragments. You guys have posted a couplem reasons why the shadow would be uniqe got any more?
I personly love sythes, but the charge is overpowered. How about a simple disk is shot.Call the sythe, the reaper or doomsday. But we need lances and maces more than the common weps.
