So I was doing a Roarmulus run this afternoon to get the last three tokens I'd need to get a second Static Capacitor (first one is a lightning capacitor dedicated to T2 PvP, this one will be crafted into a Plasma Capacitor and eventually a Voltaic Tempest for PvE). I'd been doing a few RJ runs lately with PUGs and various groups and I figured I'd keep up the group spirit with this RT run.
I'm sure you all know where this is going by now, but I'll continue regardless.
By the time we were in IMF it was pretty clear what the skill level of my group was. There was one guy who looked pretty well seasoned, had a mix of 4 and 5 star gear, and basically knew what he was doing for the most part. Then there was a guy who was a bit mis-geared, tended to take a few hits, but was still basically with the program. Then there was guy number 3, who was pants-on-head [goofy].
I ended up going down a few times through the IMF levels, since I was being rather generous with hearts-for-heat trades with my less skilled team mates, but all in all things were at least progressing.
Then we get to the final room before the twins, where there's the stone blocks on each side and you need to time the gates with the rockets while a scuttle, retrode and mechaknight chase you around. Since I've done IMF maybe 15 or 20 times, I tell the team "you distract the monsters, I'll hit the switches", and then go to work chipping away the rocks I can reach near the edge to make things a bit quicker.
We jump on the party button, and what does Mr Pants-on-head do? Yeah, you guessed it. He starts hitting the switches. I tell him to stop probably 3 or 4 times because he's doing it really, really poorly, but he keeps going. By some miracle we manage to make it through the room (Mr Pants-on-head probably died or something, I wasn't paying attention) and we go down to the boss level.
Now, maybe this guy doesn't speak english or something, but if I get into a room with lots of switches and someone tells me "Voy a accionar el interruptor" (google translated, no idea if that's proper spanish) I'm probably gonna figure out that he wants to operate the switches, and I'll leave them alone for him to manage. But no.
So we get to RT and the one guy who actually seems to be with it manages to trip over his internet modem and disconnect himself, running straight up into the corner before the match even starts. I wait around for a moment, but I figure he's probably just gonna disconnect anyway, and besides, the twins fight is pretty easy so we can do it a man down, right?
But no, Mr Pants announces "I'm gonna operate the switches!". Apparently he speaks enough english to manage that phrase. I sigh to myself, but again, the twins are pretty easy so maybe it'll work out, right?
Things actually start off pretty well. Mr Pants doesn't do a remarkable job on the switches, but we manage to take down the left twin after a few minutes. Then Mr Pants continues to direct rockets toward the left twin, who is clearly shielded. I'm like "dude, other side", but he keeps on directing the rockets to the left. I tell the guy "take down the twin on the right", and he keeps on directing the rockets to the left. I try going over to hit the switches to direct the rockets to the right myself, but he hits it back to direct them to the left, and I'm like "dude, wtf".
So after about 10 minutes of this guy licking every window he can find, I finally just say "screw this" and go solo. I finish up the fight without too much trouble (though the twins weren't remarkably cooperative with their lane choices, so it took probably another 10 minutes or so), collect my three tokens, and continued on to Emberlight shaking my head.
I consider going up and calling it a day, but I check the gate map and notice that there's a pair of Emerald Axis or whatever levels coming up in T3. For anyone who's watched my Jelly Farm video, you know well that there are few things in the game that soothe my soul like these levels. I head down the elevator with my Fiery Atomizer and, well...
Sadly he didn't drop a heart pendant, but even so any day I see a love puppy is a good day.
aha...that's where I saw my first love puppy. And now I suddenly feel like going to IMF with randoms, been awhile. Too much lockdown :/
