For just a second, let's say that the Snarby doesn't have that poison resist.

I have a Ash Tail Cap Elemental High. I'm debating whether to make it a Skolver or Snarby item. (I do have Shadow Keys)

I'm going to use this both in PvP and the Clockworks. (But mainly PvP) I already have a Skolver Cap Shadow High.

IMO, I'm leaning towards Snarby just because I already miss my 1st [Snarby] set. I'm also leanin toward it because I'd THINK this wouldn't be a bad combo in PvP:

Snarby Cap Ele High
Snarby Coat Ele High/MAXIMUM
Royal Jelly Band x2

As opposed to my current PvP set(s)

Skolver Set (Various UVs)
Various Trinkets

And

Skolver Cap+Vog Cub Coat (Various UVs)
Various Trinkets
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

So Snarby>Skolver right?

Skolver>Snarby

For balance reasons, defense does not reduce damage in PvP. I have personally tested this, and I took the same amount of damage from a Polaris bullet in both Proto gear and Vog Cub. This should still hold true so long there has not been a recent stealth patch related to the issue. Status resists on armor do still apply however. Due to the fact that freeze is much more common in PvP than poison, Skolver>Snarby, unless the Snarby has freeze resist UVs that would push it near the resist cap.

Defense and PvP?

Whoa, that's news to me. So there's no reason to bring more than one sword other than the difference between 2-swing and 3-swing swords?

can you retest this with

can you retest this with melee and bombs?

i distinctly remember taking less damage from weapons when i wore a piece of an ancient set. maybe the extra health is messing with me.

@Duskdash Defense may not

@Duskdash Defense may not matter, but damage/speed/status it can inflict of the weapon does.

If you have a skolver cap

If you have a skolver cap elemental high, why would you make your current ash tail cap elemental high into a skolver? Sell off one? Or did I misunderstand something here? Maybe you meant you already have the skolver coat w/ ele high....

IMO, your "various" trinkets contain important weapon bonuses like sword asi & dmg. Not sure what you like to play in lockdown, but I would prefer getting max dmg then max asi over a well rounded defense.

If you're on the pointy end of a lvl 10 final flourish with max damage having the standard hp (no trinkets, completed armor/helm), I think you will die in the same number of hits if you wore a vog and a skolver. If not, the difference is very little. 2 vs 3 hits. If you're on the business end of a max damage gf/da, it's still going to be 2 swings to death.

Death marks

Death marks have always had a noticeable effect on how much damage a target takes. If Adon's report is accurate, then the mark either bring defences into the negative or applies a damage modifier rather than an actual defence debuff.

That's assuming his report is accurate, of course.

I stand corrected.

It would appear that defense does affect damage in PvP, at least now anyway. I just now tested and I took 10 blocks of damage from a DA in Proto, yet only around 5 blocks in Vog. However I am still certain that when I previously tested that the damage values were the same for Polaris, so there must have either been some sort of bug or a stealth patch. I would still recommend Skolver for the piercing defense, since BTB is the most common weapon you will come across.

What dark Ritual?

I can avoid BTBs/GFs fairly easy. Not only do I use striker, but I also BTB about everyone, Skolver or not.

Either way, I've decided to make this a Snarby Cap for various reasons. I hvnt crafted it yet, but probably will this Saturday. Feel free to make me still make this a Skolver. :3

Thanks again everyone.
