Would that still work or should I just go with a leviathan blade?
And if it's just a leviathan blade, what would be a good sidearm?
In terms of general all-around effectiveness, without using additional weapon slots, the most effective loadout would be a Leviathan Blade accompanied by a Polaris. If you do get a single weapon slot, i would grab a Shivermist Buster as it is a great addition for anywhere but freeze stratums
Have to consider your armor and weapons somewhat separately. Eventually you'll want armors for different situations. Skolver is a good starting set for a swordmaster and will really shine in Jelly, Beast and Freeze strata.
If you have just one sword it shouldn't be a Flourish. There are constructs all over the place and it does poor damage to them. A normal sword like the Levi is a better one-sword option. See the damage article in the wiki for more details on damage types.
Really though, once you get into doing T2 and T3 frequently, extra weapon slots are a great investment. You can buy them when your mist is full so that they only costs 150 CE (about 5 CE a day.) Then you can carry an elemental sword, a shadow sword and a piercing sword; plus a complementing bomb or gun.
if you plan on using primarily swords, (which with skolver armor is normaly the goal) then you should plan on having more than one, which makes leviathan fairly useless. With a levi you are neutrall against all 6 monster types, with one special damage (ele, peirce, shadow) you are neutral against two, week against two, and strong againt two. With two special damage swords though you are neutral against two, and strong against 4.
That said the flurish is a pure peircing weapon, which means when a monster resists it you damage falls to practicly nothing. most other special damage weapons are half normal, half special, so even against those that are resitant they are still usefull. As such, if you are planing of only having one sword, go with the levi, if you plan on having more than one sword, avoid the levi and start with a split damage sword, an elemental brandish would be my recomendation.
The flourish is a VERY good sword, but its a very bad sword to have as your only sword (which if its the first one you are making it would be).
If you're only bringing one sword, you want to cover as many possibilities with a versatile weapon. Leviathan's good if you're only bringing one sword.
If you bring two or more swords, you want them to complement each other somehow. Flourish paired with a Brandish of some sort is good - I go Flourish/Glacius, personally. Flourish takes care of Fiend and Beast types (and is neutral against Gremlins), Glacius takes care of Undead and Constructs (and is neutral against Jellies). Since you're going Skolver armor, I'd recommend this since you're dedicating yourself to swords pretty heavily, and this is a good way to maximize your damage. (You could even bring a third shadow sword to get maximum damage against all enemy types in the game, as Culture suggested! And it doesn't have to be a Brandish, I just prefer those lines over the Sealed Sword lines.)
There isn't really one set answer - it all depends on what else you're planning to do. Make sense?
No, not with a Flourish. Flourish causes piercing damage which some monsters are resistant to. Skolver with a Leviathan Blade would work better!
