Add a costume shield slot.

^pretty much the title. We have costume helmet slots and costume armor slots, so why can't we have a costume shield slot to match our costume gear?
I'd even be willing to pay to unlock a costume shield slot (the same way you unlock trinket slots or extra weapon slots).

"so why can't we have a costume shield slot to match our costume gear?"
Sheilds are kinda inbeteewn armor and weapons. It's armorlike in the sense that you see all the time, unlike weapons that are hidden in town and only viewed one at a time. Though it's weaponlike in the sense that you weild it around, and use it to interact with opponents as opposed to just passively ressisting their attacks. That's why it's kinda iffy subject, and probabaly why they don't have costumes for sheilds, though having a sheild costume wouldn't really hurt anything.
That all being said, no paying to unlock it. Total CE burn.

The thing about this is, it's not LOGICAL. We can costume armor because it's just like putting one shirt over another. But you can't put a SHIELD on top of another!(Well, technically you can, but they would like fall off each other and you would have 2 shields.)

I really can't think of any good reasons why the Devs wouldn't implement this, other than it being so low on the priority list that they haven't gotten around to it yet. Or it could be that the concept of shields not being costume pieces has become so ingrained in their thinking that now they are having trouble breaking out of that mental box and approaching it from a fresh angle. I don't know.
That all aside, there seem to be lots of reasons to argue for this:
1) First off, I don't think the 'logical' counter argument works here. Costume armor at all isn't logical. The shirt over shirt analogy, sorry, but it really doesn't work for this. All you need to do is try to imagine how a proto helm could fit over a wolver cap and you're already breaking reality. So really, costume armor is more of an abstract concept that relies on the suspension of disbelief, and precedent has already been set here. Extending that to shields shouldn't really be a stretch.
2) Shields are already thematically tied to armor sets, which shows that the devs consider them to be closer to armor than weapons, so I also don't really buy the 'not armor or weapons' argument. We have skelly, jelly, and cobalt shields, all built to match the armor, showing how conceptually linked they are. With the exception of a handful of examples (Levi, BTB), most weapons are not related to armor sets at all.
3) Mostly though, this would be an easy way to please the player base without affecting game balance. The mechanic/general code is already in the game. With only a minor UI tweak you would be able to add add a feature to make lots of players happy.
4) And, more strategically for OOO, this provides another reason for players to play and sink CE into the game. As we all know, MMO players are willing to put lots of time and money into a game to get their exact look right. I know I would personally level a shield to 5* just to use it for my costume armor.
5) Another costume slot means more promotional costume items can be put in game for holidays/PVP rewards, etc. This can only open up more options for the devs as the game progresses. Christmas wreath for a shield? Garbage can lid?
So yeah...
TL;DR = put costume shields in for happy players and no new balance problems.
One last thought, I generally think paying CE to unlock the shield slot just means that most people won't use it. I wouldn't, especially if I only have enough spare CE lying around to choose between a costume slot or a weapon slot. Most casuals wouldn't bother. If the slot is intended to be used as a CE/time sink, enticing players to grind out new shiny items to wear, then the cost to unlock it is counter productive.

Thats fine nobody should care if you necrod because it is a viable thread to date.
And no it wont EVER happen because the greedy OOOs will have to remake the character screen to fit this and that would be oh so much money from their little pockets.
maybe painting shields will work BUT they must have the same model , EX you have a great defender , you can use a 2* defender as a costume but you can't use the mighty defender as a custome

Wingrave covered it all.
Time to keep these threads up and going until the Devs implement. It's only a matter of time till they see it, if they haven't already. It's a pretty popular topic.

I want to put an Omega Shell costume on my Darkfang Shield.
+3

I want to put an invisible costume over every shield. I CAN BLOCK WITH MY ELBOWS.

Yes, why not have costume weapons while we're at it? Would be awesome to hit enemies with a spine cone, or put exploding DA's everywhere, or shoot bullets from a troika.

@Sacrontine: Uhh, weapons have specific animations and charge attacks, making it an extreme hassle to make every weapon compatible with each other. The sarcasm is uncalled for, there's nothing wrong with this. Shields are all used the same way, no special knick-knacks.

2 handed shield problem solved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, in my book, sarcasm is never uncalled for.
Second of all, I don't think it would be that much of a hassle. I've actually seen people use bombs that look like swords due to a bug. It just looks really stupid.

Also charging guns like bombs, guns like swords, swords like bomb, swords like guns, bombs like guns, and I think that's it.
In any case, shields have no special animation/operation detail to make them special, unlike weapons. It's a simple matter to change the shield, seeing as it's operational detail is the same as your armour, which can be costumed.

I would love this.
I'm addicted to my swifty and can't go anywhere without it, but the Crest of Almire is so cool @_@

The flesh was too meaty the first time so we lets it rot a bit more.
+1, but i don't think it will happen.

This has been suggested so many times before but i still support it +1

Why this isn't here already I do not know. Is there some big reason why we can't have costume shields?

Also Sacrotine that would just seem weird.
Anyways the shield should be costume able.
+1

I would like to make Proto Shield as my costume.
WOOT! I can block Vana mace with proto!

It requires modification of the inventory window, but the positives outweigh the negatives in terms of opening new content
- Accessories for shields
- New giveaways and specials
- A reason to upgrade a shield based on looks
- New reason to acquire shield recipes
- Doesn't change any existing game mechanics
- Adds more diversity
Considering the popularity of costumes, it seems a logical next step to include shield costumes. Maybe the devs are already working on this....

I need to have a costume shield slot! This is a very good idea. Your such a genius! My outfit doesnt match with my shield

...if I can get a costume that makes it look like I am not wearing a shield.
I wouldn't mind having a shield costume slot either, my current shield kinda clashes with my armour.
