does this thing, and crest of almire, have a recipe??
not only have i not see any recipes ever for sale, or in shop, but also have never seen these shields equipped

also just want to know if shadow defense is really necessary. i will be wearing the vog set (normal/elemental) probably have trinkets for piercing, but im trying to decide on my shield. Owlite good for the fire resis but it has elemental defense as well as vog set, is that kind of overkill or what? i was thinking to have either blackened crest/crest of almire or the skelly series since it has shadow defense, but i really don't know how much they come into play.

can anybody shed some light on the subject for me please? thank you

If you're good at dodging

If you're good at dodging zombies and spookats, then there's no reason to have shadow resistance, in my opinion.

And according to the wiki the Crest of Almire does have a recipe; Blackened Crest on the other hand cannot be crafted.

You can doge anything in this

You can doge anything in this game if you're good enough. Just grab a shield for the type of damage you find yourself fending off the most.

Elemental!

Getting in range to wreck turrets is where I take the most damage, plus you often have to soak a hit of it on your shield as well. Add to that levels where there are fire or shock lichen...Elemental is the way to go.

I have (and craft) Heater Shield for 5 star elemental.
