I joined a long time ago, and haven't really played since june/july. To me, snarbolax is new, and I don't even know what's what anymore.
What you guys think happened since june/july? Has the game improved? Is the Vanaduke fight still camera angle impaired? Is Vog Cub still the only really viable armor for sword users? Post anything you want, I want to hear what everyone thinks.
First off in June, the Snarbolax from the Gloaming Wildwoods, a Tier 1 boss.
The Snarbolax is the first and only Tier 1 boss to date, and can be found through Depths 4-6. Although it seems as if the Snarbolax does piercing damage, due to the damage nature of Tier 1 it is purely normal, so any armour will do. It does have the weakness against piercing attacks, just like other members of the Beast family. The fight takes a bit of patience, as the Snarbolax is invincible unless weakened by a tool that has been placed by recons in the boss chamber. Rewards include Frumious Fangs that you can exchange for a new piercing shield, a piercing bomb, or a piercing sword, all for 10 tokens each.
Shortly after, Spiral Knights became available for Steam, which means you can merge your Spiral Knights account with your Steam account. Be alerted that once you convert, you cannot undo it. Once converted, all transactions have to go through your Steam Wallet. To celebrate the partnership with Valve, Steam players can get their hands on a Steam Mask which is a purely cosmetic head-piece, awarded for inviting 5 friends to the game via Steam. For every player that successfully reaches the Rescue Camp, you will be awarded a Mini Mist Tank which restores 15 Mist Energy.
In July, another Tier 2 boss was released; the Roarmulus Twins within the Ironclaw Munitions Factory. Located in Depths 15-17 lies the Factory, where shock-resistance is highly recommended, as well as powerful elemental weapons. It is construct-themed, so expect scuttlebots, retrodes and mecha knights. The boss itself, or rather, themselves, require patience and team-work to succeed. Read their movements and manipulate the coloured gates to achieve victory. You are rewarded Bark Modules which can be used to purchase new unique weapons and armour, ranging from 15 to 20 tokens a piece.
In August we had the introduction of King Krogmo's Coliseum; Player versus Player had arrived in the form of Blast Network, a bomberman-mode in Spiral Knights. Fight against other players in free-for-all and random team games and blow each other up with clever bomb placements and evasive manouvers to escape certain death. You pay an entry fee of 200 crowns, and the winners run off with two Krogmo Coins and the cash prize. Fight for the leaderboards, or play for fun, or collect the shiny new rewards that can only be acquired by trading Krogmo Coins.
Five new recipe-lines have been introduced; Voltedge, a shock-sword line for the Brandish. Plague Needle, a poison-needle line for the Autogun. Electron Vortex, a new elemental vortex bomb. Triglav, a freeze-variant of the Troika. Stagger Storm, Haze Bomb has received its own line in the status bomb family. Other rewards include a simple selection of bombhead masks, entirely cosmetic headpieces, to show off your dedication, and Mod Calibrators which are essential materials required to craft combat-enhancing modules to be equipped in the trinket slots. King Krogmo can be bribed for additional prizes using energy, which could earn you extra Krogmo Coins, unique bombhead masks, and mini mist tanks.
Later that month we had the introduction of new turrets to add variety amongst the ranged-attackers alongside gun puppies; the Howlitzers and the Polyps.
Howlitzers are undead turrets, firing projectiles of dark energy, dealing shadow damage. Howlitzers, upon death, will launch their head at you like a missile in a final attempt to kill you, so be careful.
Polyps are a new species of slimes that act as turrets. Despite having no eyes to speak of, these slimy turrets can see you from any angle, and Tier 3 Polyps can fire all of their projectiles simultanously as opposed to the slow spread fire of the Gun Puppies and Howlitzers.
Early September we had an expansion to the Clockworks; the Candlestick Keep. The Candlestick Keep is all that is left of the once prosperous Owlite Academy, and is now being haunted by the Spookats and other undead beasts. A new enemy can be found within the Keep that only lurk in the dark; Grimalkins. These monstrous Kats are invincible, and your shield is unable to protect you from their fangs. The only way to ward off these monsters is to light candles and take cover in the light. Orange candles provide temporary protection, whilst blue candles stay lit infinitely, always keeping you safe from the Grimalkins. As for the other enemies that roam the Keep, only your sword can vanquish.
Another Rose Regalia promo has been held, so you will now see new colours around; green, blue and gold. If you wish to collect them yourself you better be ready to shell out some Crystal Energy for it.
Later on in Septemper, Lockdown was released. You can now combat other Knights using your own weapons and armour, instead of rental bombs, in a Capture and Control-mode where you have to capture points to ultimately win the game. Get your best gear ready and fight in Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 modes against other players to collect Krogmo Coins. Using the different classes, Guardian, Recon and Striker, work with your team-mates to secure victory. Guardians have a huge shield that can protect and heal any team-mates within it. Recons can cloak themselves and become invisible to the enemy team, and give the enemies a Death Mark to reduce their defence to zero. Strikers can use their booster to move at incredible speed, making them harder to target. Experiment to see which playstyle suits you better.
Last month we had the introduction of the Prize Wheel which held a new item for us: the Iron Lockbox. Iron Lockboxes can be opened using a Silver Key, which can be purchased from Boost for 750 energy. Within the Iron Lockboxes you can find all sorts of accessories to style up your armour to your liking. Be aware that if you have second thoughts, removing an accessory destroys it in the process, so make sure that it stays on the equipment you put it on. Accessories can also be sold and bought from other players in the Auction House, should you wish to rid yourself of them.
The latest update is the Shadow Lairs, a dark place where you can fight against the currently existing boss monsters in an even more dangerous boss lair and an even tougher boss. Any tokens rewarded are doubled, as well as a new, unknown level to plow through before the real rewards are presented. Collect Shadow Keys, only found in Iron Lockboxes, and delve into the Shadow Lairs to unlock brand new 5* armour. Reaping the rewards will take a considerable amount of skill and wealth, so make sure you have familiarized yourself with their regular counterparts before heading in. Should you not own a Shadow Key, a loyal friend or guildmate might take you along for the ride, as only one key is required per party. After using the key, it is however consumed, making it harder to explore all of the lairs to collect all of the items.
That pretty much sums up everything. Welcome back to Cradle, Knight. I will see you around.
