What are your thoughts about the surface world of Cradle or having quests on the surface?

agree, but move to Suggestions forum?

I would like to see the world expanded a bit, and this is a good direction in which to expand. Of course, there are Clockworks levels (Wolver Den? Aurora Isles?) that look like they're on the surface, with sunlight and vegetation. So how would your proposal differ from these?

What if you were able to battle your way through a sequence of "levels", but horizontally rather than vertically, that took you from Haven to another city on the planet's surface? There would be no newbies in this city (for better or worse).

Keep thinking, until you come up with something really compelling. And you should probably move this thread into the Suggestions forum.

promising

i think it would be a good opportunity to release a new set of monsters, perhaps even a new type that does not spawn in the clockworks and does not fall into the current existing categories and types. i'd like to see things that actually tie into the story-line more - it would be cool to actually see the crashed skylark for instance, and have quests that revolve around defending it, salvaging parts or rescuing knights would all be interesting new content.

@ Bopp

I have it on good authority that this happened in Beta and didn't work (the no newbies part)

You used to be able to just hang out at Emberlight or Moorcroft if you had clearance there. They were legitimate towns. There ended up being a huge rift between new players and veterans because they never interacted and it created a fragmented community. I don't know about you, but when I was a new player seeing people waltz around in 5* armor I'd never seen before was motivation to keep playing.

I'm not saying another town wouldn't be cool, it really would be. I'm just saying if there is one, it can't separate the player base.

Maybe we could...

I think surface exploration could be interesting, especially what Sega and Three Rings could use that for. Seeing the Skylark would be fun. Maybe they could have a quest from the Skylark to the Core (to deliver information or whatnot).

I also think that towns would be nice, and I have an idea for making Haven the hub. What if, the farther you went from Haven, the slower Mist Energy recharged? Or something like that? Maybe have limited alch machines in some of the other towns, so if you want to craft certain things, you have to go to Haven? Or even having quests that all started in Haven, so you'd have to return there every once in a while to redeem them or something.

I think the idea of surface exploration is really cool. It opens up lots of options and sounds like it would be fun.

Hunts.You would get

Hunts.

You would get expedition tickets that let you go through specific areas on the surface world to try to bag new bosses. These new bosses could drop materials to craft new items. The shadow lair already worked pretty well for 000. Instead of running through a tier 3 boss strata, you could hunt specific tier monsters with your buddies, and these new boss fights would basically be epic battles that, instead of running through a level, you would basically fight and chase these enemies through a number of areas. Basically Monster Hunter but with Spiral Knights battle system. I think it would work pretty well.

We hear about supposed "Dragons" and yet we have yet to see an ACTUAL dragon. Would be interesting to see the ecosystem of a volcanic region... vog cubs that feed off salamanders that in turn feed off oilers that spawn in various fire pits, with the dragon at the top of the food chain consuming the vog cubs. Another possible hunt could be to try to hunt down a "skolver", a beast that goes into long periods of hibernation until it senses the living... it strikes so quickly that its prey don't even realize they have crossed over, wandering the wastes aimlessly in undeath. Basically Frozen Shamblers and Howlitzers mostly. The blizzard is so intense that at times the winds that blow by can suddenly freeze adventuers in their tracks, leaving them prime targets for the skolver.

Actually... this may deserve its own thread since it is more than just the surface world stuff.
