Rotating floors - how to plan them?

I've been reading the Wiki, and saw that the floors do change in realtime, "rotating" as you go. My question is: How can you plan for the next level? If you're on Floor 2, can you just sit at the lift to Floor 3 until the monitor changes, or do you need to "lock" in the next floor at some point?

Any information on this would be appreciated.

If you look at a starting

If you look at a starting gate and look at the depth levels you will notice multiple stages per floor, it will randomly pick one stage on that depth. I think next stage is chosen as soon as you start the current one.

They floors are in constant

They floors are in constant rotation. While in the Clockworks click the Gear Icon in the upper left and Select Gate map to view your path and see the floors that are available next. The floors tend to rotate once every 25-30 minutes. It can be very boring waiting for a floor you want to come up.

enter a gate, view the map.

enter a gate, view the map. if the 1st floor is only one level, thats all you will ever get. but if there are three icons in a row, it will randomly select one of those (draws a path to it). if you leave and come back, it will select again (you may get the same path). but once its selected there, then the clockwork mechanic comes into play and potentially changes the result from what you first see. obviously leaving and coming back is only an option for the first floor at the start of any tier.

each floor has icons between/around the individual level icons (or whatever they should be called, rooms, dungeons, just different zones in the same depth). they indicate the clockwork rotation.. it can be left arrow, right arrow, or question marks.

left arrow means that when the clockwork rotates, the levels will shift to the left (the one at the end on the left will go all the way to the right then). your path stays static, but now the level it points to will be different. there are no other levels on a floor that ARENT shown on a map, so what displayed are your only possibilities. right arrow is obviouly the same but shifting right instead (far right moves to far left).

question marks are (i think) only on the floors that contain treasure rooms. the path will show as branching to ALL of the rooms. when you use the elevator, it will randomly select one of those.

so with 1 room to a depth, youre stuck with that.
with 2 or more and left or right arrows, you can wait. your path stays static, but if you watch the gate map or the elevator icon, it will eventually perform the appropriate shift. if youre patient, you can select the level you want this way.
with the question mark floors, the elevator icon is a question mark, and you get what you get. no use waiting.

i dont know the exact timing that the floors shift at. i dont think theyre all in sync, but i could be wrong. i believe someone said something like 12 minutes between shifts, but not sure if thats true either.

i will just suck it up if the room i want is more than one shift away, i dont have that much time to wait around.

not sure if this helps you, but it might help others.

and the path / level are not

and the path / level are not locked until you step into that elevator. if youre going to wait for a change, you'll just want to camp next to the elevator and.. have a snack or something.

interesting, so people can

interesting, so people can basically pick their route through the gate if for instance they want to farm for a certain something and they know it appears on that level blah blah.
i'll have to keep this in mind

I thought it worked as

I thought it worked as such:

Elevator destinations change every 5 minutes.
Destinations are randomly picked from any one of the ones available on the next level, including the current destination (unlike in CBT, where they depended on the cycle direction)
Levels with treasure vaults appear as ? to prevent camping for them.

Certainly seems like it in practice.
(My team regularly sits around for the Fire/Slime arena in the current Royal Jelly gate to change up, because boy oh boy does that arena ever suck.)

if by elevator destination

if by elevator destination you mean the path drawn down to the next floor (ie whether it goes to the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd level from left if there are 3 levels on that floor), then no, it doesn't change every 5 minutes. however the the path leads to might. maybe you just chose the wrong words to describe it.

the initial destination for the next floor is chosen (randomly, as you said) when you enter the current floor. check your gate map when you enter a floor, noting which of those levels the path points to. check again when you reach the end. the path should stay the same, and the level its pointing to may or may not. depends on how long youve been there, how long it takes for the shift to occur, and the direction of the shift which level you wind up with. but the elevators path should be static, and just the levels shift.

you're right about the treasure vaults having ??? to prevent camping, but maybe even for the graveyards too (since those are actually far more lucrative, imho)

whats CBT?

anyways maybe youre saying the same thing i am and we're just saying it in a different way
